"The conservative base is looking the other way on government spending and certain other issues and saying, 'I'm not going to lessen my support for the president when he needs it for winning the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism,' " Mr. McLaughlin said. "They see winning the war in Iraq as tied to winning the war on terrorism."

Stupid me. I always thought a candidate should put out his agenda and platform *before* the election. You know, speak about the big issues before people vote. My have things have changed. Now were told to just shut up, remain silent, and vote, then voice our opinions AFTER the election. Yeoza.
OK, I'll go away, quietly now, step easy. That platform is already bending under the stress of that big ol gorilla standing in the middle of it.
Cheers....
I didnt vote for GWB in 2000. Of course, I didnt vote for gore, either. I voted senators and stuff but i didnt care for either man in 2000. This year, It's GWB
I, too, am a Colorado libertarian who didn't vote for him in 2000. I still believe in the libertarian ideals, but GWB will have my vote this year.
I'm sorry, I'm kind of lost here--what exactly is "THAT issue?"
Good advice.
Good decision, my friend.
Illegal immigration
Thought so. Thanks.
If you leave the religious conservative out of the mix then you will loose same with the economic conservative especially in a national race. California is the perfect example...Republicans kept the true conservative in the race for one reason and one reason only and that was to get enough votes for a yes on the recall, if they had not kept the "true" conservative on the ballet Arnold would not be Governor now.
The religious conservative did not think Bush was doing anything more than playing lip service to the pro-life cause during 2000 and the true fiscal conservative felt his compassionate conservatism meant bigger government and what was the point, they both had seen his father. We were voting for nothing more than the old dem party.
This time come hell or high water they will both back him for the war. That is a principle that will be in the forefront, though the religious conservative did see some action on partial birth abortion, which is a big help.
The serious problem will happen the 2004 presidential election since it looks like the rinos have taken over the party....and we will get to see the "stupid party" ride again. To bad since it will probably be against Hillery....but history looks like it will repeat itself once again.
Lets just say as a religious conservative myself, I held my nose and voted for Bush last time thinking that he was only paying lip service to the pro-life crowd and knowing that he was not going to be much of a fiscal conservative....Next election if presented with a pro-choice candidate nothing and I mean absolutely nothing including Hillary running for president will induce me to vote for a pro-choice rino. To some principle is the reason they vote Republican not party, and they are not in it to win it for the elephant but to win it for ideals. So looking down you nose at "true" conservatives really does you no good in the long run if they do not show up to vote in enough numbers to win the election for Republicans.
Put that in your bongs and smoke it, hippies!
You just keep telling yourself that, Lady.
So looking down you nose at "true" conservatives really does you no good in the long run if they do not show up to vote in enough numbers to win the election for Republicans.
Sorry, kiddo: the GOP has figured out how to win without "true" conservatives, because Rove learned--after Bush got at least 4,000,000 fewer votes from that bloc than Dole got in 1996--that "true" conservatives are not likely to actually vote. In 2002, Rove and company simply ignored the "true" conservatives. He's doing the same again.
If y'all want to regain your influence, you'd better start delivering votes consistently--it's called building up markers, and y'all have long since squandered the ones you got in 1980 and 1984.
Stupid Party rides again. What a joke, think Dole without paying lip service to the pro-life crowd who wants to be fooled or willing to go along with that lip service (those who knew better and did not want to be fooled stayed home, same with the economic crowd). LOL!
Little clue, liberal California rules do not work in flyover country for a national election.
I do not need to be talked down to by some liberal rino, I am not a "kiddo". That is the sign of somebody who is not secure in their argument so grow up.
You are the one in la la land if you think that a national election can be won by a rino. What is the point when the Republicans offer us a choice of dem light or dem strong.
People will go with the real thing.
Besides most of the rino's, people like you are thinking of going with have so much dirt in their pasts the the democrats are laughing their asses off, like Rove was at the prospect of Kerry or Dean.
They are begging the Republicans to put up Guliani or even better hothead McCain.
Fine. Your "friends" have already made sure that your childishness has zero impact. Amazingly enough, you're still going to get some of what you want.
I wish you good luck without all of those silly Christians and fiscal conservatives, not to mention all of their organizations who run adds for you.
Yeah, I guess we'll have to do without the guys who take GOP money and spend it on slanderous push polls regarding the GOP candidates. (My favorite was the one that falsely stated that the GOP incumbent's son had been busted for possession.)
Why don't you really shoot yourself in the foot and run a gun control freak. LOL!
Ever wonder why the NRA always gets what they want from the GOP?
Because they don't pull your brand of stupidity.
Meditate on that.
You argue like a spoiled child; for once in your life, you will be treated as such. Deal with it.

Well, when Bill Simon got labeled a "RINO" by your buddies, who then proceeded to trash him (and used GOP walking-around money to do trashing, to boot!), it became rather hard to take y'all very seriously.
Deliver votes. Deliver them consistently and reliably. Or get used to being the beneficiary of charity, and learn to accept it with something resembling gratitude. Because, right now, the "true" conservatives demand very much after delivering very little. That kind of mismatch is what causes the GOP to ignore you.
They are begging the Republicans to put up Guliani or even better hothead McCain.
BTW, Lady, I support neither of those persons for 2008. But you go right ahead wishing that I'm some sort of liberal. I'm a conservative who's been backstabbed by so-called "allies" one time too many.
You are very foolish and condescending. NRA gets what they want because they only back those with their money that vote their cause. It has absolutely nothing to do with any brand of stupidity it has to do with principle(oh wait maybe they are not stupid in your mind because they are so easy to bend to back a rino gun control candidate???? Yea right.)...Think on it a while.
The exact same principle applies to Christians who vote their faith and those many Christian organizations who run adds for pro-life Repbulicans. Christians who vote their faith will vote for a principle just like the NRA. It really is not that hard to figure out, both have a principle they use their money, members and time to back. Think on that a little while longer.
Principle....you either have it or you don't, it is what gets you votes or the other guy votes or people begin to look elsewhere. The one thing I know for sure is that the Republicans do not want a Conservative Christian party forming when that is their vote.
Gee, and I thought it was you that was the spoiled child who cries and calls names, when he can not make the conservative or the Christian bend their principle for the better good of a party. What a joke.
