United Nations: Oil-for-Food Fiasco?
Newsweek ^ | 10/11/2004 | Mark Hosenball and Steve Tuttle

Posted on 10/11/2004 1:08:32 PM PDT by BushisTheMan

Law-enforcement sources say Americans who participated in alleged oil-for-food scams also may face further investigation. The CIA deleted from Duelfer's report names of Saddam's U.S. oil-for-food favorites. But an uncensored copy of the Duelfer report obtained by NEWSWEEK indicates Houston oil mogul Oscar Wyatt got oil allocations from Saddam which could have earned him and Coastal Corp.—a company he founded and ran until 2000—profits of more than $22 million. Wyatt and wife Lynn are major donors to political causes: since 1989 they have given nearly $700,000 in contributions, of which more than $500,000 went to Democrats. Wyatt told NEWSWEEK that his company did buy oil from Saddam but that he never did so personally, and that his company's dealings all complied with U.N. rules.

Money quote of the article:

One focus of investigators is Kojo Annan—son of U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan—who once worked for a Swiss company hired by the United Nations to inspect Oil-for-Food shipments. Kojo Annan left the company before it was retained by the United Nations, but U.N. sources acknowledge he was paid a "non-compete" fee by the company after it began work on the U.N. program. Kojo Annan could not be reached for comment, but U.N. sources predicted that any U.S. criminal charges against Kojo would likely further sour U.S. relations with top U.N. leaders.

= = = = = = = further sour? impossible!

the Annan family is the 21st century version of the Kennedys, killing and looting and stealing and swindling, wouldn't surprise me if Kojo is messing around with babysitters either

Gee, no wonder Democrats are so against what we are doing in Iraq now... they don't want us to find more evidence of them in bed with Saddam...

-"Oscar Wyatt got oil allocations from Saddam which ...more than $500,000 went to Democrats."

The RATs (and MSM) complain when an honest citizen gives $150,000 to group of veterans, but they have no problem not complaining when they get half a million funneled to them from America's enemies.

If there is meat to this whole subject - and I have no doubt there is plenty - it is about time the mainstream media started coverage. ARE TERE INTERESTS HOLDING BACK THE SCANDAL - WHICH IN MY ESTIMATION CAN REFLECT POSITIVELY ON GW. CNN international spend about 5 minutes of air time on the draft last night...when both candidates have denied there willl be any...I do't supose this could be MSM playing scare tactics for the dems...

Over on the "Daily kos" they are trying to hang it on President Bush -- guess they didn't read the truth is he's connected to the Democratic Party.

For some reason Democrats (and Kerry is pushing it) have this thing about Bush and Oil... his daddy was the more successful of the two in oil, but the old Texas Oil guys are mostly the Yellow Dog Democrats you hear about...

Same with Enron -- if it's Enron, it must be related to Bush -- yet, when Brown's plane went down and crashed during the Clinton Administration -- Enron was along for the deal -- just on a separate airplane... I wish people would get the facts...

Maybe we should repeat Arnolds comment about the UN. He seems to be well liked in California so maybe his remarks will convince some. Hope so.

Ping me when you get your letter to the editor done. I'd like to read it.
