Governor's Sword Falls on Illegal Immigrants' Driver's Licenses
The Sacramento Union ^ | Sept. 23, 2004 | Ryan Rose

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger terminated the latest version of the license bill, AB2895, yesterday. It was Schwarzenegger’s twenty-second veto since entering office last year. In a simple statement that read more like a condolence than a mandate, the Republican governor said he could not sign the bill because it would make California too vulnerable.

“One of the most important duties of the Governor of a state is to protect its citizens. Determining the true identity and history of an individual is a key component of that protection,” the governor wrote. “This bill does not adequately address the security concerns that my Department of Homeland Security and I have and I cannot support it.”

A similar bill was sign by former Gov. Gray Davis before his removal from office. Schwarzenegger repealed that law, written by State Senator Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, after the October recall election. Upon rescinding the bill, however, Schwarzenegger said he would work to develop another law to serve the needs of the illegal immigrant population.

Prior to 1994, illegal immigrants driving without licenses were a low law enforcement priority in California. Laws similar to the one just vetoed by the governor exist in 10 other states.

I agree with many of your comments and I'd suggest checking out he ramifications of the FTAA and what it's going to do to our Constitution and legal system. There's no doubt in my mind already that if FTAA turns out to be the nation-destroyer that it appears to be then we've already got a TSM in the White House already.

Usually they go in groups of mothers with their several small children never a word of English is spoken, of the 4 mothers walking down the street this morning all 4 are pregnant

Hey, they hit the jackpot. They invaded the U.S. and are rewarded with free babysitting at a cost of 8 grand a year to the NorteAmericanos. Plus free food under the school lunch program. Plus the kiddies dropped on U.S. soil are allegedly citizens of the United States (we won't call them "Americans", because even they know that's a fraud).

And best of all, they get the schools to themselves. Most Americans don't want their kids outnumbered by illegal alien children (because of the hatred that Mexico has for America, it's not safe for American children to be there), so they pull their kids ASAP. But they still have to pay the property taxes to support Los Mexicanos. And then pay big bucks to go to the private schools or move.

Great deal, huh? Kinda like extortion.

Where are my pals

Hey, everyone's still here! We're not leaving, we wanna make the illegals leave...and Schwarzenegger did this under threat of out and out rebellion, even a renewed recall movement. He felt the heat from a political firestorm and backed away. That's all. If he and the national party had felt comfortable, they would have done it.

So don't think too many congratulations are in order. That guy is still in the RINO pen, and he has a lot to do to get out of it, none of which he'll probably ever do.

For this action ALONE, if there was a better candidate than Bush running, he would get my vote. But there is NO WAY I WOULD PUT A TREASONOUS SOCIALIST-MARXIST IN THE WHITE HOUSE...I care too much about this country.

I understand your sentiments.

It's too bad that most FReople are unwilling to hold their candidate accountable before the election.

Instead, most of the pro-Bush people are like you. They decry this abomination which was created by a so-called conservative that gives our tax dollars to the citizens of another country who broke our laws, but still reward the law-breaker, the President, with another term in office. (Yes, this Agreement violates federal law by giving illegal aliens US SS benefits)

I have seen the enemy and he is us.

The funny thing is that by supporting Bush, you're supporting a socialist. If the Totalization Agreement and Medicare propaganda isn't proof that Bush is a socialist, then nothing is. That's why the democrats haven't uttered a peep about either one.

If you think that voting for something like Kerry is how to hold GWB accountable, like most liberals, your methodology is cutting off your nose to spite your face...

Slipped under their radar - this is a real old post for news...

Looks like those folks in postions of power figured out a long time ago that it's much easier to push through a patently socialist agenda under the guise of "conservatism" as opposed to leadership (?) under the liberal/progressive banner. This tactic combined with the empty suits in Congress and useful media idiots is almost 'can't miss'.

Puh-leeze.

Please point out a single time I've advocated voting for Kerry. You won't find it.

But that didn't stop you from insinuating that was my suggestion, now did it?

Did you write Bush to tell him of your dissatisfaction with what he's done?

Did you write your congressman? Senator? Local newspaper? Conservative radio talk show host/commentator? Call your local radio station? TV Station?

Please explain what any of these actions has to do with voting for Bush vs. voting for Kerry to express your dissatisfaction.

No, like most FReepers, you're willing to go to the ends of the earth to hold up to the light what a democrat does to harm this country but will only whisper into a box what harm a republican does.

I am so glad the 'adults' are in charge. I just wish their constituents didn't act like such children. </sarcasm>

Immigration is a Federal issue. Until the Feds decide to do something about it what Arnold wants is probably all the state can do.

Well Arnie ought to line up a few charter busses and send a convoy of 'em to the state of Washington, D.C...If the Feds want them, let 'em have 'em...The Feds have no power over State laws, if the States press it...

On the face of it, this is just incomprehensible. What "needs" to the illegals have, other than our need to toss them the hell out?

That's true, but every crutch knocked out from under the Illegaliens' attraction for being here helps!

THE MEANING AND SIGNIFICANCE OF ALL THESE AMERICAN PRINCIPLES IS BEING TRAMPLED ON BY OUR LIBERAL POLITICIANS.

It's only a matter of degrees.

The Totalization agreement proves that the republicans are in favor of big government while the democrats are in favor of bigger government.

The democrats want to drive us over the cliff at 90 mph while the republicans only want to do it at 70 mph.

In both cases we're going over the cliff and we're going to end up in the same place and in the same condition. The only difference is how long it takes to get there.

This is what happens when we choose the lesser of two evils.

... and how long does it take to go over the cliff when you choose YOUR perfect person and they loose the election ?

I would suspect we have latest 200 years with very few if any perfect politicians...

Thats because there isn't much difference between the two candidates. Kerry says he'll grant amnesty to some/all (who knows) within 100 days of taking office. GWB just won't do anything to stop them.

So, when will you start holding those you elected accountable for their actions?

What's your opinion of Bush's Totalization Agreement that will allow millions of Mexican illegal aliens to receive hundreds of billions in US Social Security benefits?

What have you done to persuade him to rescind or revise it?

This demonstrates the need for a strong third party who WILL listen to the citizens/taxpayers/voters. The Republicrats won't.
