DENVER -- Some 6,000 prisoners and felons on parole are on the state's voter registration rolls, The Denver Post reported Sunday.
State law bars prisoners serving sentences or convicted felons who are on parole from voting.
The Post reported that Secretary of State Donetta Davidson plans to convene an emergency meeting this week of Colorado's 64 county clerks to stop prisoners and parolees from voting on Nov. 2. Some prisoners and parolees voted in the August primary.
"I had no idea we had that type of numbers," Davidson said.
"You have to wonder if they're malicious or inept in the secretary of state's office. Every ineligible elector that votes cancels the vote of an eligible elector," said Al Kowicz, executive director of Accurate Mail Election Election Results, an election watchdog group based in Boulder.
The Post said 40 percent of the 6,006 felons on voting lists are on parole or in community-supervision programs that would permit them to visit polling stations. Records through September showed 536 felons registered this year. Some were signed up during registration drives that have added tens of thousands of potential voters to the registration rolls since March.
One problem is that the state corrections department does not send a list of felons to the secretary of state's office.
"We can only act on the information provided us. This particular issue is a matter for corrections to address," said Bill Compton, state elections director.
"We send data sets to agencies that request the information," said Alison Morgan, spokeswoman for corrections.
Dems are firing up the base.
Look at it this way folks, if you are so disparate that you have to go trolling for bottom feeders to get them to vote for you, then you must have given up on regular folks long ago..
BUSH/CHENEY '04
are the dems setting up polling places at the jails, too? We wouldn't want them to be 'disenfranchised'....'that would be wroooonnnnnnngggggggg'........
My guess, it's less than 25%.
The dems are so pathetic! I guess we will be hearing about the disenfranchised in Colorado too!
Ping FYI
How do these people get a paycheck?
I would appreciate it if they could find those who "orchestrated" this event, in registering 6000 felons, and put them in court. The death penalty would be appropriate I think.
Illegal voting is the lifeblood of the Democrats. Kill it, and the Democrats die off.
Illegal aliens, felons, the dead, and the senile are the Democrat core constituency. And Asa Hutchinson says we can't get rid of the illegals. Remember Asa Hutchinson is we lose.
I assume these names are being purged. The article only mentions a meeting to discuss this issue.
Is anyone starting to see the wisdom of this country's founders when the original voting block was "property owners"?
I'm not trying to be racist or sexist but maybe there was something to it. Does anyone have more insight on any background material regarding this?
Two States allow felons to vote from prison. Most of the others allow felons to vote when they've finished their punishment. Florida doesn't allow felons to vote at all.
The democrats want all felons to vote. As it is a party of give-aways, and it's voters are largely the "What's in it for me" crowd, felons and democrats are a match made in, uh........where?
From the taxpayers.
Silly question Blackdog.
You are right....they are trolling for the bottom feeders, but if it is allowed to stand, the bottom feeders still count against us. I have been hearing that some voter polls are so nervous about repercussions that they are going to accept whoever shows up without question. That is wrong! It is clear that the Democrats who are creating these problems don't care about the laws of this country or the well-being of this country.
A paroled felon cannot ignore the conditions of his or her parole. If felons on parole cannot vote, then if they do so their parole is revoked and a warrant is issued for their arrest.
Or is it only some laws that we do or do not have to obey?
You beat me by this much........
Please remove me OFF this ping list.
Thanks.
They will spin this too. Depriving " " of their rights; the REPS are causing vote stuffing; that is why they asked the UN etc. Seems the Republicans should have been investigating voter fraud from the last election, wherever it may have fallen. Instead they treated the fraud in the smae manner BUSH reacted in the first debate..
I personally believe the DEMS are the real crooks, BUT why haven't the REPS resonded / acted? Dirty hands too?
I'll bet they mostly register Democrat.
