...According to the Kerrys' own tax records, and they have not released all of them, the couple had a combined income of $6.8 million in income last year and paid $725,000 in income taxes. That means their effective tax rate was a whopping 12.8%. And it was all (presumably) done legally.
Now don't get me wrong: I'm not against people paying a 12.8% tax rate. Far from it. I just believe that all Americans -- even those who can't afford to hire tax attorneys to set up complicated trusts and find legal ways to stash income in other tax-sheltered investments like municipal bonds -- should have a shot at that kind of non-confiscatory tax rate.
Under the current tax system the middle class pays far more than the Kerry tax rate. In fact, the average federal tax rate -- combined payroll and income tax -- for a middle-class family is closer to 20% or more. George W. and Laura Bush, who had an income one-tenth of the Kerrys', paid a tax rate of 30%.
[Kerry] finds clever ways to reduce his own tax liability while voting for higher taxes on the middle class dozens of times in his Senate career. He even voted against the Bush tax cut that saves each middle-class family about $1,000.
The Kerrys have unwittingly made the case for what George W. Bush says he wants to do: radically simplify and flatten out the tax code.... John Kerry has consistently opposed a flat tax, because he says it would be a tax break for the rich. But the truth is with a 19% flat tax, some rich people with lavish tax shelters, like John Kerry, would pay more taxes. I calculate that the Kerrys would pay another $500,000 of taxes if we had a flat tax....

LOL! Yes, but the gigolo and his golddigger wife did not earn any money-- as Howie Carr says, they got it the old fashioned way, they married it.
What rate does Edwards pay?
John Kerry WILL raise your taxes, bump!
So...how did he avoid the AMT?
If as it is reported the Kerry's have half a billion dollars and they report income of $725,000 then one of two things is happening - their (the Kerry's) investment people a doing a fine job (NOT) of managing his money - with a .00145% return or HIS tax people (chef's) are doing a better job - gee I wonder which holds true?
John Kerry made a big point of the top 1% of the taxpayers getting back a total of $89 billion in reduction of their taxes. But what does he think HAPPENED to that $89 billion. It did not radiate off into space, or sink into a black hole in the ocean. That $89 billion became venture capital, it was turned into a wage increase for more productive employees, it created further wealth through the simple means of compounding at interest, and most importantly, it served as incentive to further maximize growth, not seek additional tax avoidance, apparently the strategy that guided the filing of the Heinz-Kerry income tax returns.
Someone from the RNC or Bush campaign needs to jump on this and turn it into an ad. Bush needs to memorize these stats and an appropriate sound bite for the domestic debate...
John Kerry wants to raise your taxes, while dodging his. He pays a tax rate on his $7 million of income that's 36% less than the typical middle class family. And George Bush? He paid a tax rate that's over 50% more than the middle class. Our president is an honest man who plays by the same rules as the rest of us.
Use a bar chart of stacked dollars to show the rates paid.
Another version...
The average middle class family's tax rate is 56% higher than the rate John Kerry pays. No wonder John Kerry wants to raise your taxes. He won't pay them. He'll use his high priced lawyers and shelters to dodge taxes while you pay through the nose. It's time for a new tax system, that's simpler, fairer, and doesn't let the John Kerry fat cats game the system.
Still show the bar chart, showing Bush's tax rate is higher than the middle calsses.
The problem is that this tax return is only a small fraction of what they really earned, it was more than 5 billion, and also there Tereza was able to take advantage of a tax loophole created by her husband to retain 12%. It's the same loophole in which Edwards benefits were not to pay $600,000 in Medicare taxes. Surprising?
For 2003, Edwards evidently created a legal but faux corporation so that he pays himself most of his income as dividends, which are taxed lower than ordinary income and are not hit by ss/medicare taxes? Maybe an accountant could explain all the benefits.
For 2003 his taxable ordinary income dropped by a million dollars from the previous year. In 2003 Edwards showed an income of about $350,000 - on which he paid a grand total of about $22,000 in federal income tax. Do the math.
BTW- it is rather difficult to dig up Edwards' tax records as compared to the other three candidates.
John Kerry WILL raise your taxes, bump!I have absolutely no doubt about that.
He will be turned AWAY at the polls November 2nd though, because of HIGH GOP voter turnout!
Let's NOT let Jean Keri near those WH keys !
Go, Dubya, go !!
Exactly! My husband is finally back to work thanks to that venture capital back in the economy. Yes, I want four more years of Bush. For me that means 4 more years of a job for my family. Not to mention, 4 more years of no terrorist attack on our soil.

WILL BUSH MAKE AN ISSUE OF THE FACT THAT KERRY LOOKS FOR WAYS TO SAVE ON TAXES? IT'S A LEGITIMATE REASON TO GO AFTER KERRY AS IT SHOWS HIS HYPOCRISY.
