Time for Kerry's campaign to go down in flames! What a PRE-911 mentality. Yes, we want to think of terrorism as a mere 'nuisance' like prostitution....

How about this for the basis for an attack ad: "Let's get back to a time when extreme liberals like Kerry were merely a 'nuisance' and not influencing the national security policies of the United States."

Kerry is the nuisance now, but he'll be a MENACE if he gets into the White House.

I agree with your interpretation. Perhaps all he was doing was engaging in a little wishful thinking. But that is precisely the problem and why he is so dangerous. The enemy is not going to stop. Kerry's world-view is 4 years long. Their's is hundreds of years. They are patient, and are willing to lay foundations today for victories that materialize long after they are dead. Kerry wants to believe that we can have things the way they were before. Impossible. His view will get us all killed.

oolatec's take in Post #7 was that Kerry was misquoted. oolatec never returned to defend that position. My take is Kerry said it.

Now, as to the question of whether or not the reporter "misinterpreted" Kerry's statement, well I guess that is entirely possible. If so, then a whole bunch of people are having exactly the same problem. It seems to be the most common and obvious interpretation.

A case can be made that your interpretation of the statement is nothing but "spin" in an attempt to cover up a colossal gaff on the part of Kerry.

You may have opened a can of worms. Good luck stuffing them back in the can.
