I just came from a Catholic Church where the priest mentioned in the sermon that abortion is like child sacrifice. He mentioned the practice of sacrificing the firstborn male bay in Carthage, and he said that's why God told the Israelites to wipe out the Carthagenians. OUCH. Now that's forthright.
It was the Romans who defeated the Carthaginians ("Delenda est Carthago"--Carthage must be destroyed), but they were still motivated in part by disgust over the practice of child sacrifice.
