It is fundamentally against LP principles to set an arbitrary GOVERNMENT SANTIONED age limit on activities that do not harm others.I think the American people could not handle the responsibility of such a system. I really think there are some Americans who could not handle the freedoms the Constitution theoretically allows. Their heads would implode, or they would be furious that others are doing what they consider to be wrong, or they would go the other way and take it to the extreme and become irresponsible.

Sounds like a personal problem. For them at least. ;-)
I imagine it would be a rather ... er... exciting time for a bit should we ever regain the full protection for our Second Amendment Rights. Exciting at least for criminals who's livelyhoods would be put in dire jeapordy. I still find it hard t ocredit that there are "conservatives" who see this as a bad thing.

The Americans back in the 1700s could handle it just fine. That's what's happened since then. It's been so long since we've had freedom that people are scared of it now. Real and tangible consequences of individual's actions are what _teaches_ responsibility. Ask any parent; responsibility cannot be learned unless it is given.
