Well, folks, it's not just the Palestinian Authority that is in the business of indoctrinating young people through vile martyrdom videos.
Now, the artist formerly known as Prince has jumped into the murder-promoting, terror-sympathizing act. I just finished watching "Cinnamon Girl," which can be viewed online here. (Warning: You need to download AOL's media playback software to watch the video). There's news coverage of this female suicide bomber video here. Excerpt:
Its a chilling social statement from a musician better known for talking sexy: Princes video for the song Cinnamon Girl depicts an Arab-American girl detonating herself in a crowded airport terminal on what looks like U.S. soil.Featuring Keisha Castle-Hughes from the movie Whale Rider, the four-minute clip opens in a stylized urban schoolyard, rendered in pen-and-ink and stylized gray watercolors drawn by artist Greg Ruth.
A group of teen girls react with horror to the whining roar of jet engines that fades into the opening notes of the song. When it becomes clear whos responsible for what we presume is a Sept. 11-style terrorist attack, classmates of Castle-Hughes character torment her for her ethnicity, and she flees for home, only to find her parents covering over the Arabic script on the sign outside the family store. Someone has scrawled terrorist scum on one of the stores windows.
Cinnamon girl mixed heritage/Never knew the meaning of color lines, Prince sings. 9/11 turned that all around/When she got accused of this crime.
Intercut with straightforward scenes of the singer and his band playing on a blasted, war-torn landscape, the video shows Castle-Hughes donning traditional dress and head scarf and videotaping what appears to be a statement of martyrdom. In the next scene, shes back in Western garb and arriving at the airport. Perhaps for emphasis, the camera lingers on the U.S. passport she shows to airport officials.
Then shes standing in the terminal with a detonator in her hand. She closes her eyes and presses down on the red button with both hands. The perspective shifts outdoors as flames rip through the glass-paneled front wall.
Its only for a moment, though, and then the scene reverses itself to the moment just before Castle-Hughes hits the button. Is it a fantasy?
What it is is a washed-up pop star's crass exploitation of post-9/11 race-card-playing by Arab-American apologists for terror. What it will do is further stoke the fires of the America-bashing MTV crowd. It also happens to be crappy music to boot. Prince should leave shahid recruitment to Yasser Arafat and stop trying to be a Musician with a Message. Whatever happened to the days when pop musicians actually made good music?
"dont give him the attention he craves..."
Yes, yes, 1000 time YES.
I'm inclined to agree with CobaltBlue. Prince is attempting to depict that you have a choice - join the extremist bandwagon and blow stuff up or realize that there is more to life than that. In the video, the girl appears to make the choice not to.
I'm no big fan of the primary message, though, which is that we somehow make middle easterners WANT to blow us up because we are mean to them.
This guy is bullshit.
If you watch the video, his message is simple. Society made her do it. All the kids teased her at school...everyone called her people "terrorists". What could she do but blow up the airport? She just couldn't help it.
Right. That's why she walks away from an unexploded airport. /Sarcasm.
Do you mean the silly little wimp in purple tights that is always surrounded by bodyguards? John Edwards?
Actually he's Prince again, or as I like to think of it, The Artist Formerly Known as the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, or TAFKatAFKaP for short!.
I hate to say it, but even if the message is a subtle plea for angry American Muslims NOT to blow up airports, 99% of the viewers won't get it.
What it will suggest to most people with any inclinations in that direction is that Americans are mean to foreigners and therefore deserve to be blown up.
I have to agree that Prince has never been very political, if at all.
BTW, Prince only assumed the "the artist formerly known as prince" because the record company owned the rights to anything produced by Prince. He therefore would not use Prince again till the contract ran out.
Flame me as you see fit, but Prince has a hell of a lot more talent then that dipsh*t Springsteen had.
Here's a this-little-fruit-stole-Neil-Young's-song-title ping for ya!
Same thing with the guy I shot at the liquor store. Society didn't care about me, and left me too poor to afford 180 dollar sneakers. It's not like 40 dollar ones would work, so I had to get some money. It's not my fault the store owner put up a fight.
The video shows an Arab girl being harrassed about terrorism by fellow students. Then going home and listening to her parents trying to brainwash her into becoming a suicide bomber. Her mother prepares the bomb while praying over it. The daughter sneaks out her window and goes to the airport. While there she contemplates and imagines blowing it up. But comes to her senses and doesn't. I think it's actually a message all Arab, especially Muslims, should see. They should not let their hate filled parents brainwash them with their vile terrorist ways. They should tell their parents NO!! Say no to suicide bombings. Say no to violence.
You're exactly right. How in the world did Malkin get it so wrong?
I'll never forgive him for taking Sheena Easton away. After she went over to his side, she went nuts.
He stole your name. ;)
She was looking at from a wrong perspective, in my opinion. For those who don't get it, watch it again. See the girl reject her radical parents. She stands up to their hatred and brainwashing. The passing of hatred from generation to generation needs to stop. That's the message.
I thought Neil Young could be happy for the rest of his life with Cinnamon girl?
I thought they were not allowed to get involved in political causes. Have they now taken an anti WOT position?
