WASHINGTON - Former University of Oklahoma football coach Barry Switzer endorsed Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Carson in the U.S. Senate race on Thursday, saying Carson was "a good Oklahoma conservative."

The most corrupt football program one could imagine. I lost all respect for Switzer after reading it. Oklahoma State didn't come out any better either.
Carson lost that debate big time!
That debate explains the shift in the polls.
Well maybe we can exempt Bob Stoops in our prayers that OU be thoroughly defeated and humiliated by The University of Texas tomorrow.
Just what Carson needs - an endorsement from the arch-crook of college football. ;)
Will Rogers said, "I never met a man I didn't like."
Will Rogers never met Barry Switzer!
I wonder..I watched the debate, and hade never seen, or heard, either man before..I thought Carson came across well..Carson couldn't win as a Dem in any state outside the south..
I smell sour grapes.
Odd that you would choose to attack Bud Wilkinson in this forum. The guy was a legend and hero in Oklahoma and traded it all in to run as a Republican in Oklahoma back when that wasn't cool.
As for any of you thinking of rooting against OU football because of this - take a look at Bush's support level in Oklahoma vs. Texas. Oklahoma and the vast majority of OU football fans are very strong Republican Bush backers. As a % of their congressional delegations, Oklahoma has been far more supportive of Republicans for the last 20 years than has been Texas.
Barry's entitled to his opinion, even if he's wrong. But to somehow root for Texas football -- well, that just don't make no sense. Recall, Ricky Williams, UT's biggest latest gift to the sports world, decided he'd rather tour the world getting high than live up to his commitments. And . . . don't forget that UT's current star back, Cedric Benson is notorious for sharing Ricky's love of the weed. Every school has got 'em. While Switzer was at OU, they did have more than their share - but if you look at current programs . . . the nod for the good guys goes to the University of Oklahoma.
Switzer is a putz....
Man if you want faux national titles start a Notre Dame, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, etc thread.
Switzer is a yellow dog. This shouldnt be a surprise to anyone.
My husband has been a OU fan all of his life. Hates Barry S.
What has this got to do with Barry S? I am from Texas, my husband from Oklahoma. I will still be for OU.
Who said he was sober? He did back Carson, didn't he?
Your husband is very fortunate.
I'm not surprised - Switzer's a nitwit.
I can't stand Switzer either, but whenever I hear someone talking about "faux national championships" that a college football program has won I know immediately what that translates to: "my team lost."
This is great news. NOT!!!
Yeah, but we can claim a far greater Midwestern football legend as one of ours.
Maybe you've heard of Tom Osbourne, the 3-time national champ Cornhusker and first-term Republican congressman?
It was a bit tongue in cheek, as I prepare for my Longhorns to once again get outprepared, outplayed, and outcoached in the Cotton Bowl(though no doubt Mack Brown will offer more excuses than a Democrat.) And convict Cedric should not even be considered for the Heisman after breaking and entering(and running up the stats on Baylor is pretty cheesy too, just another reason to fire Mack. I'm no fan of the VA Tech/K.State cupcake schedule strategy.)
But the fact of the matter is that Bud, no matter what his party affiliation, was a dirty cheat when it came to football and recruiting. Mythical nat'l championships won on probation and won in seasons that would result in probation under his watch. Barry recruiting half his teams from Texas, traitors enticed by free cars and all the other crap OU football has long been known for. Yeah, lots of other teams cheated that way to one degree or another, and no doubt UT along with the whole SW Conference, but OU was about as dirty as they come.
I have no idea if that 'tradition' continues under Stoops, hopefully it does not. He seems to have the ability and now reputation to not need to resort to that crap. Perhaps Adrian Peterson really did go to OU rather than UT based on Mack's inability to develop players. But the sordid history of Bob's predecessors and their outlaw programs is a fact that won't be soon forgotten. Are there still bullet holes in the dorm rooms?
And you can add some of those Miami teams, with their Orange Bowl homefield advantage and then weak Big Least conference(yet they still almost always had OU's number!) Or how about 5th down Colorado, Osborne-retirement gift Nebraska, etc. The system is a complete joke, figure skating has more credibility. And now that they've dropped strength-of-schedule, watch all the big programs drop all the decent non-conference games they can wiggle out of.
After another beating - I'm wearing an orange tie today to honor your fallen.
To suggest Barry et al were somehow deviations from the norm in recruiting doesn't seem fair - but since its old history now, whatever. UT is sort of the poster child for recruiting frills, isn't it?
In any case, would you please get your horns up for the rest of the year so the conference puts up a good showing? It's getting harder to justify UT's annual high ranking when they slouch through December and January. Thanks!
