No Mail or Telephone Calls for Troops? Communication Workers & Postal Workers Oppose War in Iraq
(Excerpt) Read more at laboreducator.org ...
I know very little about how mail is supposed to get to Iraq from the States but if it is going through APO AE (Europe), that may be the bottleneck.
Just more union thugs. Nothing to see here, move along.
Oh, and if you are a union goon - THIS is one of the reasons that union memberships continual to fall. Non-union types like thinking for themselves.
As an experiment, you might try shipping something by express mail. Yes, it is expensive, but you can track it and maybe get some idea where the blockage is.
APO mail is slow--but not because it gets held up stateside. Remember, the military works for Uncle Sam just like Postal workers do. Being anti-government employee is as knee-jerk as being anti-military: it tars way too many with a brush that paints a miserably false picture.
This is not to blame the military--but, especially during combat in 2003, mail to overseas APO's was often delayed because other items--such as equipment--were given higher priority. We had several people tell us letters and packages to their loved ones would arrive all at once--and they had been mailed days, even weeks, apart.
That being said, I am DISGUSTED with the APWU for its anti-Bush BS--and they will not get another dime from me!!!
I know APO mail is ridiculously slow, but he has received none of the many letters that were written and only 2 boxes out 16 that have been sent. We had better service when the war was going on with our oldest son. the USPS service is only responsible to getting to the military mail service, we pay the extra money for priority service just so it will stay in the airmail system
I even have to deal with the union GESTAPO at work when I bring in magazines for the break room. The other day they were going to throw away all the gun magazines because they had the "wrong message". He was even going to take the magazines to management in hopes of getting me fired, (gee, a union steward reporting a fellow worker to management....
Fortunately, the chief steward here, while a screaming Democrat, will listen to reason and was willing to smack the idiot steward down hard.
Semper Fi
There are laws against messing around with people's mail and their communications over wire.
Not to mention they are unpatriotic and need to be thrown out of the country. Labor groups have no business messing in the politics of our country's wars and international relations.
grrrrrrrrrrrrr
At the Postal facility in which I work we have four employees on active duty at this moment. We also have had drives to collect articles to send to troops serving in the Middle East. With so many of us being veterans ourselves, I can't understand how people could believe that Postal employees, or communication workers, would be inherently anti-military.
Sometimes I hate my union.
I can say with absolute certainty that union leaders are worse than the worst CEO. They got their facts right in the comedy "Armed & Dangerous" when they showed how their union was run.
I'm a union member but you're essentially right. US laws have evolved to take the thunder from a union. I myself pay the CWA 700$ a year and this is what I get.
I'm gonna have to fire off a letter to them about this.
CWA 3410 here. Got my lavender/purple card in my hand right now. And you're absolutely right. Most of our guys while not all staunch conservatives are typically conservative leaning. the 49% figure sounds about right.
Are the delegates to these conventions shop stewards or rank and file? And do the stewards get paid in addition to their company paycheck? Or do they only receive money from the union?
Not trying to start anything. Just trying to learn and put this in perspective. I can't imagine the rank and file being of the same rabid persuasion as the union leaders.
