Compare the two photos taken one year apart. (Both sightings were in Ohio.)

We had a severe storm pass over Greene County, Ohio tonight (September 19, 2005). I was outside trying to capture some lightening photos with my digital camera at 10:30pm when I noticed this group of lights passing overhead. Note the smaller light (left side of frame) trailing behind the larger group of lights. Two things were unusual about these lights; (1) I have never known a plane to fly through such severe weather and (2) I could not hear a sound coming from this object, which appeared to be flying just under the cloud cover.
I have included a picture that I zoomed in as tight as possible without creating too much distortion. The tight shot certainly reveals some detail of what appears to be a solid shape. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be able to better analyze this photograph.
Both pictures are unaltered in any manner other than to zoom the grouping of lights. The camera I used was a Sony DCP-150

The above object was photographed by the Olmsted Falls Police photographer near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport approximately one year ago. (See posting 215 for a link to the series of photos that were taken by the Olmsted Falls Police near the airport on September 26, 2004.)

Thx for the ping, Dave.

I just did a few simple photoshop tests, blocking out the visible light and lightening the remaining darkness...and analyzing the dark areas after having trimmed out the lights. Vy interesting, however inconclusive. There is a lot going on in those photos that the naked eye can't picked (master of the obvious, eh :), there are less powerful lights that are drowned out by the ones that are visible. Might be reflections on a surface or on moisture in the air.

Also, the colors in both photos are basically identical when broken down into groupings.

You said it was lightening when you took your photo, was it raining in the area you photographed or was it dry?

Its a shame there are no details - height, speed, duration, etcetera.
