Despite the desires by some Democrats for a Halliburton festival in the debate, Edwards brought it up only twice, each time as a counter-attack. And each time he displayed the attention to detail that used to characterize Cheney until he took office.

Tommy congratulates him for only bringing up a complete falsehood twice? How about a congratulations for only punching your wife in the stomach or a hearty pat on the back for snorting heroin instead of shooting it?

Perhaps Tommy would like to check out Edward's falsehood of Bush bringing back the draft.

By the way, is it just me or does Thomas Oliphant look like the sterotypical pedophile?

I always thought he and Pee Wee Herman were a tag team in movie houses.

Doesn't Oliphant's wife work for CBS? She works for one of the networks.

Boston columnist Thomas Oliphant's daughter is a speechwriter for the Kerry-Edwards campaign.

Just like a Lib to miss the point completely. The point Cheney was making is in no way diminished by the fact that they may have had some passing interactions in social contexts. The point was not whether they had ever met, but that they had never met on the senate floor. Leave it to libs to try to confuse the situation.

Wonder if The Boston Globe and the DNC have a 50/50 salary deal on Oliphant, or does Tommy get his annual performance evaluations directly from the DNC's HR department? ;-)

He really does. No foolin'.

The funny thing about most newspaper columnists is that if you met them in person and they offered their opinion, you would think: "who is this socially retarded geek and why does he think I care what he says?"

Yet put the same losers in newsprint and voila! we're suddenly supposed to care.

Of course, Edwards was completely unable to contradict Cheney at the time, which speaks volumes for home much of an impression the "meetings" made on either man.

My own hunch is that it was a trap, and Edwards later walked into it, squeaking "I sat next to him at breakfast once", like it was some little man recounting his brush with the famous and powerful. Any Edwards response only diminishes his own stature, though Mr. "Listen about my big pool drain cover case" Edwards didn't catch on...

Edwards cited more specific, and verifiable concerns. One of them happened to be the fact that nearly half the $20 billion portion of the bill targeted for ''reconstruction'' was a $7.5 billion, no-bid contract for Halliburton.

How is 7.5 almost half of 20?

"Oliphant's fading credibility"
By orangelobster

If Oliphant's main problem is that Cheney forgot that he met Edwards at a rubber chicken dinner then he is whistling in the dark. I think most people find it entirely believeable that meeting Edwards is an event easily forgettable. Yeah, Cheney probably did meet him a few times, but he probably meets dozens of overbearing salesman types with toothy grins and firm handshakes in the course of a day. Cheney probably just smiles, nods, quickly forgets them and moves on to worrying about the job of running the country.

The Boston Globe is one of the BIGGEST liberal rags in the nation, cannot be trusted to tell the truth. Boston has two newspapers The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald, the Globe is trash and the Herald is almost as bad.

And from Today's Letters to the Editor:

Bush falters with no script

October 6, 2004

I KNOW WHY George Bush grimaced and frowned so much at the first debate (besides the fact that he didn't have Dick Cheney beside him). He was outraged that someone would have the nerve to question his judgment.p> At his infrequent news conferences he answers only a few questions, and he can choose reporters he is comfortable with. He isn't used to the insolence of someone criticizing him -- the person allegedly picked by God to be president.

It is going to take years to undo the damage this president has done but less than a month to send him back to Texas, where I'm sure he will be more comfortable without annoyances such as John Kerry and the public he has lied to and abused.

Oliphant had unlimited access to the White House for 8 years under Clinton.

Unless Kerry wins, the next 4 years of re-runs of The West Wing will be the closest the bow-tied bum-kisser will get.

That's John Corzine. Now, that guy looks like a child molester to me. IMHO, of course.

Unlike Cheney, Edwards is not spending today explaining any falsehoods.

Why not? I wasn't married in the state I currently live in, yet when we moved here, it was required to recognize the marriage performed by the state where we were married. Yet Edwards repeatedly claimed that no state has ever been required to do so.

I'll bet a lot of FReepers who have never set foot in law school can explain to you why this was so.
