some are-you call those folks "anglo-Indians"(mixture of Indian with British,Portugese,French etc)-but the vast majority are original Indians from South India(my neck of the woods) & some from the North East.
I wish there were more South India restaurants in the USA. I've only eaten once at an authentic one. I love spicy yellow pea dhal w/ the whole black peppercorns in it and eat it like a soup.
Many Indian eateries here are run by Sikhs and Pakistanis. The food is North Indian slanted.
Interesting about the Anglo Indians and pure Indians who are Christian. In recent years some Hindu riots against Christian proselytizing.
Yep,but those attacks had more of a political colouring than socio-religious reasons.The ragheads who did it have been very quiet of late ,whatwith a Centre-left govt in power & the communists acting as watchdogs.If you may have noticed ,attacks on Christians & Muslims skyrocketted over the past 8-7yrs,when a Hindu nationalist based party was in power.Besides I think it is unfair to classify all people who follow Hindu religious beliefs as Hindus.Hinduism is a very very diverse religion & infact you cannot call it one religion.
Plus, I dunno, the Hindus that I know never really got worked up about Christians, though they do have grudges against slammies
I understand completely. I'm a monotheistic Jew but have nothing against polytheistic (some call it pagan?) Hinduism because they are not out to conquer the world. I've read about it for years and know how chaotic (not meant as insult) Hinduism is. It's a real folk religion in the rural areas and usually tolerant of other religions.
Hindu websites have been exposing murderous Muhammedanism for years. Long before 911 and others caught up with them. Who can forget the classic "X Rated Paradise of Islam"? And the one about the Hindu Holocaust when Muhammedans invaded.
