Well, it was all a joke.
Faux science is such fun.
Why do you suppose that GE has gotten into the picture? 20 years ago fly by night companies slapped junk together and called them windmills and sold them to people looking to get some big tax benefits. Do you expect that GE is doing that now? That makes all the sense of saying that Bush secretly caused 911 so he could make money through Haliburton. You are way into the "kook zone" with your arguments.
It was all a joke......
Ain't faux science fun?
Sorry. {blushing}
WOW, they're Invisible. Great technology but hell for birds.
Do you know how many birds die by flying into buildings each year, let alone those killed by cars and trucks?
Don't forget squirrels
3.75 GIGAWATTS!
What's fun is watching the PETA people biting their tongues to favor the Greens. If nuclear power were killing as many birds, you know they'd be out there protesting.
Aha! But how many buildings cause epileptic seizures?
"... and, when rotating at just the right speed, their giant moving lights and shadows can provoke epileptic fits."
Worse yet, an epileptic seizure in a bird!
ROTFLMAO!
No worse than cars driving by. That is the wierdest complaint I've ever heard and like the rest, the complaint is with no regard for all the rest of the things out there that are much worse than windmills. Like Newgeezer said somewhere out there, some people just don't like them for fear of being labeled an environmentalist.
Just wait until those old antiques get repowered with modern windmills. Then you'll see some serious beauty.
>True, but the blades spin slower than they used to.
yes, they spin at 3 revolutions per minute.
With 120 foot radius, that's 26 mph.
I'd hate to be hit by a car going that fast.
Any faster it would be generating wind :)
>Why do you suppose that GE has gotten into the picture?
that's absurd. Why do tobacco companies make product that kill people? because there's a market. It's just that simple. It doesn't have to work well or at all if people are willing to buy into it. Besides, GE makes all kinds of turbines and machines with lightweight materials, so they don't need major reengineering to get into a market adjacent to ones they already know. And if the market fails, no big deal either, they'll still be making wind tunnels, airline parts, etc.
>That might be an interesting argument if Europe was
>actually doing that. As it is they are building them
>faster than Ever

What's absurd? Pointing out that the world's biggest corporation sees long term profit in wind power since the market has grown 30 percent per year for the last 8 or so years? Anti-wind people like to say that windpower is not practical and will never amount to a serous power source because it is too expensive and not available on demand. I'd say that GE and many other large corporations and banks are seeing things differently.
Every country has it's 10 or so percent of the population that is simply against windpower for one reason or another. And yes, they can be a very noisy bunch, just look at Nantucket.
At the tip, yes.
