ALBANY, N.Y. Senator Hillary Clinton used the current flu vaccine shortage as an opportunity to repeat a call for reforms in the way we acquire and distribute vaccines.
Nearly half the nation's expected supply of flu vaccine may not be available this winter because of production problems in the United Kingdom.
Clinton noted that during the vaccine shortage last year she and others recommended certain changes, hoping to prevent future shortages. She said these recommendations still haven't been adopted.
Clinton urged the U-S Food and Drug Administration to stockpile surplus inventory of the vaccine in the future and change the protocol for procuring it.
She said we also need a better way to identify at-risk individuals so that flu shots can be targeted for those with weaker immune systems. Clinton said the priority now is to make sure senior citizens and other high-risk groups get the vaccine.

The answer to the vaccine problem is to make manufacturers immune from law suits.
Remove the legal profession 1,000,000% tax on vaccines and the problem evaporates.
Britain has to manufacture it because the top pharmaceuticals gave up on vaccines for the most part due to potentially huge liability. The fear of law suits prompted the outsourcing to the UK.
That's the root of the problem. And I blame the American Bar.
Hillary always puts up a smokescreen. Fianlly, her appeal to drop the suit brought on due to fraud and conspiracy was declined. It may handicaps her from running in 2008.
I didn't think you could stockpile it because the strain changes every year. What good is it to have a large stash of LAST YEARS vaccine when this years bug has morphed strains and the vaccine no longer works on it.....

How can you stockpile from a surplus when there is never any surplus? And doesn't the vaccine have to be made based on what type of flu is predicted to be most prevalent each year? Isn't the flu strain different each year?

The flu vaccine is reformulated every year to protect against the anticipated strains of the comining flu season meaning that vaccine from stockpiled surplus inventory might be roughly analogous to Windows 3.1.

The headline made me laugh: I immediately thought that the actual vaccine was due to be reformed...now complete with tiny microchips that allow Hillary to have her own personal Onstar network.
