Wonder what to uncheck on the startup tab of msconfig? (Don't need to delete the programs, just uncheck ones you don't want running.) Here's the acronym I've used successfully on all my computers: Uncheck everything that doesn't start with the intials L A S or T (LAST). Works for me, though I am running Win98se. Someone with WinXP can chime in.
Actually all the ones you mentioned in your last post could be unchecked, in my opinion, even though some start with A or S. (Not the ones I keep.)
After unchecking, restart and see how the computer runs. If you are missing something you ordinarily want (like "hey, where's that Quicktime icon on the bottom that I like to use?") then go back and check whatever sounds like it. Also, you can search those wierd names on Google to find out.

You can safely delete everything but systray and explorer. Actually I think those functions are started elsewhere in XP. You can also check the same path on HKEY Current User and see programs there.

Yeah, it said (the computer) when I rebooted that it was keeping the necessary files for windows so I guess that was some of them. I just tried it again and it rebooted 1-2-3.. I love it! This bull has been going on since last spring with me, I literally had to reboot like 15 times before it would take. Microsoft should direct all customer help to freerepublic. ALRIGHT!!! Now I can spend 20 hours a day on Freep instead of my usual 15!! YEAH!
