Our HQ in Memphis is waiting until Oct 16th to put out those BIG 4x8 signs because of all the vandalism going on in Memphis. We have to replace at least 10 or more yard signs a day. Mostly in E. Memphis and around the U of Memphis.
Those 4x8's aren't cheap! My daughter bought one for her front yard (which has so far been left alone) which cost $169.
My own yard signs that I got from campaign headquarters were stolen several times. We immediately replaced them and had to take them in at night to protect them. One night I was on the front porch just as 4 drunk college students came up on my lawn and started kicking at one sign and taking down the other. I told them in no uncertain terms to get off my lawn and two of them came right into my face and started to confront me. Like animals! My husband came out and chased them for blocks before they finally ducked into a building somewhere. What's really weird is that the signs that had been stolen have started to reappear on my lawn...one every few days! LOL.
It is sad to think our society has come to this. I can remember at their age being afraid to be anything but respectful of others and their property. The kids today, some of them, have no concept of that.
My friend who walks all over town with her Bush pins and sign every day has been assaulted, spit on, pushed down, yelled at, cursed at, and threatened. She is an older woman and no one seems to let that bother them at all!
If we don't do something, the hatred (misguided as it is) will only fester and boil over. But what? This is a frustrated society that suffers from the effect of the burn-your-bra crowd who failed to be parents to their kids. The damage runs very deep.
If I lived in Memphis I would volunteer for a couple of nights a week to stay and video tape anything/anyone that attempts to remove/deface the HQ signs. Put them up now, and get some volunteers. Three or four,individuals a night should be enough witnesses. It's only until Nov. 3 so lets get busy.
Have you sent a press release to all your media? Including a challenge for the reporters to address the "double standard" in their report.
Just imagine if it was an attack on a protected minority, the press would be al over it!
Intimidation of political speech SHOULD be news.
