LOS ANGELES(AP) - A group of Hispanic activist is promising to "punish" Governor Schwarzenegger for his veto of legislation that would have let illegal immigrants get drivers licenses.
Leaders of Latino Movement USA held a rally today in Los Angeles. The group is soliciting the donation of movies the former actor starred in for a symbolic destruction in December.
Last month, Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have let up to two million immigrants drive legally.
The legislation's supporters have vowed to go after the governor, whom they think caved in to public sentiment.
Schwarzenegger has said the bill ignored his requirement of key security safeguards -- an identifying mark that would differentiate them from licenses held by US citizens and legal residents.
There are certain 'family value' items of the hispanic culture that we could use ... sometimes I wonder what would be worse, our continual downfall into politcal correct government, lessoning the family values more and more ... or just moving our capital from Washington to Mexico City and starting over!! ;-)
Like what? The highest dropout, illegitimacy, illiteracy, and crime rates of any group in the country? What you refer to as "'family value' items" are the things of Christian culture. If you think that the presence of Mexicans in the United States will help reenvigorate the Catholic Church, I suggest you read a little bit about the history of Catholicism in Mexico. The "Hispanic culture" (and not just in Mexico) has largely degenerated into gang, caste, and guerilla violence rather than a true Latin identity.
From my experience, the notion that Hispanics are "more religious" than the average American is disputable. Mass attendance may be higher, but this religious adherence seems often to be mostly or entirely cultural in nature. (There are of course exceptions, particularly among Christian exiles from Cuba.) As evidence, one need only look at the fact that Mass attendance in most of Latin America is pretty dismal.
I am not that interested in the 'religious' part of the Mexican culture, but the less politically correct leanings on 'sexuality' were more of what I was thinking. There is a 'norm' that society needs to keep for society to continue and I think we are losing that norm more and more each day ...
Besides, I did have a smiley face on my post as well!! ;-)
I'm disgusted that none of them will pay attention to the majority of Americans who are demanding control over this situation. I'm a conservative ex-Republican, registered as Independent, and I'm leaning toward a protest vote by casting my vote for the Constitution Party. I like their platform, and they definitely don't ignore illegal immigration. Nice to hear from you!
I agree with the governor of California! You can't give a drivers license to someone who isn't subject to our laws. How would you enforce the driving laws (speeding, etc.) if you can't take someone to court and hold them accountable. Let them become citizens first for pete sakes!!!
Very good point. Though in the last fifteen years, the Mexican presence in the United States has gone nowhere but up, yet sexual moral codes have continued to go nowhere but down.
Besides, I did have a smiley face on my post as well!! ;-)
Of course. :)
I don't see any commonality in that parallel statistic. I do see that in the Latino countries there is a far less acceptance of sexual perversion and a stronger endorsement for one woman/one man marriage. That is my only point.
Right on. These cowbirds need to go.
Yes I have seen the Betsy Ross flag at work.
The invaders really believe they will win.
With the active help of our government, I guess
they have a good shot at winning.
What ever happened to sanity?
I once told a tv reporter that the same rules Mexico uses
on immigration, should be used here.
She (a mexican woman) strongly disagreed and said we should
be better than that.
Translation: Keep those borders open. Eventually overwhelm
the hated yankees. Eventually, spanish only.
Eventually, a nightmare, just like Mexico is now.
Viva la Raza.. NO WAY.........
We are perceived as weak fools by these people.
They truly believe, that if we don't have the will to
stop them, then we don't desierve this land.
What they don't seem to get is: When they do take over
they will be slaves again to the same evil type system
Mexico has now, or worse.
How does communist style Cuba sound for the :children
of the sun:?
That is the real goal of these latino leaders.
They want power, wealth, and a slavish underclass.
Sounds a lot like Mexico, doesn't it?
You got it all wrong.
They don't care what you think.
And most of our own in government, don't care what
you think.
America must change, so that it will be easier to
control by our future global controllers.
As the old communist latino activist said: We need to
go back to Europe. This is "are" land. You stole it
from us. etc. etc. etc.
I would have a problem though, since ALL of my ancestors
did not come from Europe. Some were here before his
conquistadors showed up. Comanche/
It sure does --- if they believed in anything else they could have fixed up their own country --- Mexico is headed for disaster --- the recent elections show a sharp leftist turn. Crossing the border illegally for money or welfare handouts just doesn't change someone into someone with American values.
They like that system. Mexico has always had a certain form of government even with democracy and elections. It's their culture --- they are a communal kind of people and it goes way back to the way they lived long before the Spaniards came. Destruction of the ejidos by privatizing them has been a disaster for most of the ejidoderos --- one reason so many of them have been moving here for the social safety net we have. They were able to exist in their homeland for centuries with communal farms --- a form of Communism. Even here --- look how many of the colonias come with community centers, community leaders who are just Communists.
"I do see that in the Latino countries there is a far less acceptance of sexual perversion and a stronger endorsement for one woman/one man marriage."
I respectfully disagree with you. Sex with, and molestation of, minors is more common in the hispanic community than you think. I handle cases for school boards and municipalities across the country: You would be shocked (but then again, maybe you wouldn't) at the number of cases we get in involving a "tio" and his "niece." It almost seems as if every adult hispanic male is an "uncle," and many of them have a propensity for "educating" or "comforting" their nieces. Believe me, I am not making this up.
Interesting ... thanks for that awareness. I know that the latino culture is much less 'accepting' of gay and lesbian 'practices' but this supposed 'plus' in my perception is not a good trade for what you are pointing to, especially if it is higher in statistics than in our country.
