Welcome Cindy. It's people like you who make me believe GWB will win handily. I believe there are more democrats who had their eyes opened due to 9/11 than most people think.
Over the past three years, I have met/heard about many pre-9/11 democrats who wholeheartedly support President Bush, but I never hear about any Republicans who plan to vote for Kerry.
I'm glad you're here.

If you buy
any book in the next year of your awakening, I suggest Dinesh D'Souza's "Letters To A Young Conservative", which is a comprehensive outline of conservative doctrine and a blanket condemnation of the opposing points of view. After reading and digesting it, you will no longer go
"round and round" with your mother. I dare to suggest she will no longer speak politics with you. After I digested it, a certain liberal friend of mine simply stated that "Politics has become a taboo subject between us".
We're much better friends now. LOL
Here are just a few of the Title chapters:
Fighting Political Correctness
Authentic vs. Bogus Multiculturalism
Why Government Is the Problem
When the Rich Get Richer
How Affirmative Action Hurts Blacks
The Feminist Mistake
All the News That Fits
How to Harpoon a Liberal
The Self-Esteem Hoax
A Republican Realignment
Why Conservatives Should Be Cheerful
There are about 20 more and several are rather short and succinct.Welcome!

Your story is hopefully the same as millions of stories, Cindy. Our side is afraid people will not know for what we really stand. Their side is afraid that people will know for what they really stand.

WELCOME CINDY...
Somewhere in one of these post someone made a remark about if only there were more dems like Zell Miller...
That is the key. Zell is one the last of the 'real" democrats.
there is no longer a Democratic party. It has been systematically infiltrated and taken over - Ted Kennedy is the head honcho - a socialist.
I'm a professional writer (semi-retired now) and did an investigative piece for a state wide paper 23 years ago. It was after Kennedy had lost the primary for presidential candidate. There was a meeting in our state capitol of the D.S.O.C (Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee.) They said "NO PRESS." So I went in disguise - no makeup, hair in long braid, jeans I wear to work around the garden, etc. I fit right in! : )
The gist was: The main speaker was our state majority leader in the senate, (democrat). He started his speech by holding up a card and saying: "As you know, I am, like you, a card carrying socialist. We were getting close to taking over but since Ted lost the primary, we have lost..." and went on to bemoan that they were not now strong enough to come out in the open under their socialist banner. So the game plan now, he explained, was to continue infiltrating the democratic party until they were strong enough to take it over.
They have now done that. And that's what has happened to the OLD democratic party. It is no longer. There are only a hand full of true democrats left - Sen. Breault is another. But they will soon be gone.
Another thing they said that day, 23 years, ago, was that they must also get in positions to control the pension funds - I thought that strange at the time. But look what's been happening to peoples pension funds. And no one will ever know the true reason why.
anyway - again, welcome...but don't ever feel guilty about leaving the democratic party - you didn't. It left you.
Thank God for Fox News, Rush, Hannity and the Internet. The truth can no longer be stifled.
And we have, in a large part, Al Gore and the dems to thank for it. It was their dastardly shenanigans in Florida 4 years ago that turned everyone onto Fox! and we've been watching ever since - (and let's not forget, Gore "invented" the Internet too - ho ho)
And then, last month, CBS handed us another victory with RatherGate...and I believe a whole new layer of folk woke up. (Besides, every time they put those photos of the young Bush in his guard flight suit - Bush won another slew of woman over (tongue in cheek.)
So WELCOME ABOARD. (Besides, we republicans are a happy group. We don't snarl and shout and point fingers and gnash our teeth - you're in good company.)

When I was much younger, I didn't register with any party, but usually also voted Democrat. Ronald Reagan became president - I saw the (very bright) light - registered as a Republican, and have never looked back...
Welcome home! :-)

Welcome to FreeRepublic! You are a wise woman to see through the [d]emocratic party. Kerry and Edwards make me ill, with fear and terry that they just might pull off their con on the American people. At this point in time, we can only put our faith in God that he will guide our President to make the right decisions for all of us. God Bless America! Eagle UP!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Oh the shame, the utter horror! LoL
Actually I was in 2nd grade during Carter v Reagan and I was the only one who voted for Jimmy in our mock election. I didn't know any better, but on my way home my friends' "educated" me after a good laugh at my expense. They even taught me a song to mock him. It is sung to the tune of the Oscar Meyer hot dog song.
That was my wake-up call.
