(Vanity) Analysis of Last Night's VP Debate

Dear Friends;

First of all, the media is trying to spin this as a 'draw', but Cheney won hands down. In fact, he opened up a big fat industrial sized can of whoop-you-know-what on poor little Senator Gone (as America now knows Edwards home town paper's nickname for him).

The conservatives have made a great deal of Senator Kerry's absence from many key committee meetings and senate votes, but it was interesting the way the Vice President brought out Edward's own absense from the Senate. Basically Cheney said that as Vice President he takes his duty as President of the Senate seriously, and makes it a point to attend the votes. He then said "Tonight is the first time I have met you, Senator". I was watching this debate with my son Andrew who is 10 years old, and when he asked me what that meant I explained to him that basically it's like your boss telling you I haven't seen you at work in 3 years. SLAM !

The Vice President did a great job of setting the tone for Friday's presidential debate, doggedly attacking Senator Kerry's abysmal voting record. Now you know why my nickname for Mr. Cheney is The Bulldog. Twenty years of wrong votes in the senate (as Senator Miller put it "against, against, against") completely disqualifies Mr. Kerry from being president of this great country of ours.

Mr. Edwards tried to attack the Vice President on his Halliburton ties, and attempted to tie him to the no-bid contract deal that Halliburton got. Of course, there was no mention of the fact that the reason why there was a no-bid contract was that Halliburton was, and is, the only corporation qualified to do all that work in Iraq. Also no mention of all the Halliburton employees who have been killed in Iraq. Halliburton is doing a great job for Iraq and America and since this is a capitalist country, in my opinion they deserve to be able to profit from it.

Contrary to what democrats want you to believe, rich people are NOT EVIL. They are the ones who drive the economy and provide us middle class folks with JOBS. Listen - no rich people, no jobs, period. It's amazing how the dems encourage the working people to bite the hand that feeds them.

The Vice President also did a great job refuting Kerry's plan to "rollback" the Bush Tax Cuts for people who make over 200,000 dollars a year. Vice President Cheney deftly pointed out that that includes SMALL BUSINESSES, who by the way make up the majority of businesses that create new jobs! If the Bush Tax Cuts get rolled back, believe me, it will KILL the economic recovery that was started by the Bush Administration, cause a loss of jobs, and kill America's small businesses. Democrats have never been any good at economics, especially since their general attitude is "What can my country do for me?"

Speaking of that, did you notice that attitude in the tone of the questions ? Is Dick Cheney the only guy in this whole race who understands that it is NOT the government's duty to hand you a JOB and HEALTH CARE ??? The Kerry-Edwards plan for health care - did you actually hear him say to insure EVERY child in the US ??? - is so ridiculously expensive it will actually KILL the American economy and RAISE the cost of health care ! You think not ? Consider what the private sector charges the government for hammers, etc. There is a reason the government's "Waste, Fraud, and Abuse Hotline" is in existence. Being in the navy, I actually had the occasion to submit an overcharge report to them on one occasion. The private sector will always try to milk the government for money, and the health care profession is NO exception.

THE most telling moment of the night, all in all, was when Senator Edwards attempted to discount the number of Iraqi citizens who have died there trying to make their country better, in order to jack up the percentage of coalition casualties to 90% American vice 50%. Truly, bad news for America is always good news for Democrats. Shame on you Senator Edwards! Great job for the Vice President who did not let him get away with it.

For you number buffs like myself, Edwards made 3 references to Kerry's Nam "service", 3 references to last weeks debate, and told 3 of his stupid trademark anecdotes.

The President needs to go on the offensive immediately Friday night and not let Kerry and his shameful senate record off the hook. Pound it all night like a fullback working over a tired defense. America cannot afford 4 years of Kerry-Edwards. Or should I say Kerry-Gone ? Yeah, that sounds better.

Nice summary. I agree with you. there was also one other good zinger that Cheney got in. It was nearer the beginning of the debate. It was something to do with a bill that was just voted in and Cheney said something to the effect that Edwards and Kerry probably missed that vote also. Does anybody else remember exactly what that was??

Yes, I remember that one too. Also the one about "Frankly your record is nothing to brag about" or something along those lines.

He won because he drove a sword into the man who wasn't there - John Kerry.

Bingo. Right on target.

I think it was about the permanent tax cut, but I'm not 100% positive.

Oh I think the line that was the biggest winner that Bush can run with and get many votes out of is...

"You and Senator Kerry couldn't stand up to Howard Dean, How can Americans trust you to stand up to al-Qaeda?"

Bush can say they buckled under pressure from Howard Dean....America can't trust them to not buckle under the REAL threat of al-Qaeda!!!

This should be the number one campaign slogan for the remainder of the campaign.

I'm looking forward to the transcript. I bet Edwards said "plan" more than times Kerry.

He then said "Tonight is the first time I have met you, Senator".

Yea, and this morning the liberal spinners have a couple pictures of Cheney and johnny in the same room, therefore Cheney lied.

Unbelievable!

I've been in many rooms close to people I never met. lol

I forgot to mention the annoying way that Edwards kept ripping paper out of his pad at the end of the debate. He did it twice while the VP was speaking and it made an extremely loud noise. The dem mod, naturally, said nothing to him.
