I have to say, Cheney has always had this immovable presence when he speaks. He may not decorate his speech with flourishes and animation, but he is so imperturbably lucid, intelligent, and incisive that his opponents always end up breaking themselves on his granite-like demeanor as he advances in a very deliberate fashion.
Cheney is calculating, methodical, and relentless, never giving an inch, and once he takes an inch he never gives it back. Not dynamic and exciting to watch, but he is a machine on the political battlefield. I'd like to see Cheney do Kerry; as much as I hate to say it, Cheney schools Bush when it comes to debate, for the same reason he schools the Democrats. But everyone already knew this going in. Cheney is well-known to be a serious heavy-weight at this kind of thing.

Gwen Ifel (sp?). She did ask some good questions.
In watching the reruns of last night, when the debate was over, did she seem more pleased to speak to the VP?

Fair enough...why don't they start by having Kerry sign form 180 and release his service records?

I heard VP Cheney speak in person for the Cole Campaign during the 2002 election and was struck with his presence when speaking -- he controlled the room when he was with a group of people before the speech and he controlled the whole room when he spoke. He was clear, concise, and had a wry wit about him that everyone loved that heard him speak.
Have always admired Dick Cheney, but to hear him in the debate last night made me so glad that he is our Vice President -- he is the steady rudder that a Administration needs. President Bush made a very wise choice in picking Dick Cheney and staying with him because he is the best VP we could have.

Gwen Iffel of PBS. I thought she did an excellent job as opposed to Jim "one more question about Iraq" Lehrer.

I agree. I avoid PBS like poison but this woman seemed very balanced and fair. It is not often that conservatives have a fair moderator.
