Rangel Votes Against His Own Draft Bill!

October 5, 2004

Listen to Rush… (…read from the latest Kerry-Edwards transcript on the draft rumor)

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

I've been saying that the mainstream press, particularly the Associated Press, acts as a transcript service. They're not a news service or a wire service. They're not out there reporting the news. They are a transcript service for the Kerry campaign. And the most recent example is the Democrats have got this rumor percolating out there that Bush has got a secret plan to reinstitute the draft, right? It's so untrue, and the opposite, if anything, is true, and it's been demonstrably shown to be true, and yet the mainstream press continues to report, AP or whoever. When they get this rumor of the draft going, they dutifully report it as a transcription service would.

And yet today, presidential politics took to the floor of the House. (story) Republican leaders trying to make a political point by decisively defeating a Democrat bill that would reinstitute a military draft. It's the Democrats, there are two Democrats that have reintroduced or introduced a bill to reinstate the draft. And they did it not because they want the draft, but for political reasons. They wanted to start the rumor. They wanted to get it out there. It was Charles Rangel's idea that the rich kids are not fighting while the poor kids are. And so he wanted to get the draft going to try to illustrate that.

"Rangel Votes Against His Own Draft Bill!"

This, of course, qualifies him to be a Kerry supporter.

You know your legistalation sucks when you can't even bring yourself to vote for it.

Why New Yorkers keep voting that clown in is a complete mystery. Why people who fear a draft vote Democratic is also beyond reasoning. Even after this pathetic spectacle, there will be MILLIONS of people that are so ill informed that they'll think that the Democrats narrowly stopped Bush from reinstating the draft.

Like I said before, anyone stupid enough to believe in the draft is way too stupid to be in the service.

LIBERALS.... GET THIS!!!

YOU ARE TOO IGNORANT TO BE IN THE SERVICE!

GOT THAT?

Then shut the hell up!

"I am voting no, because my bill deserves serious consideration."

CONGRESSMAN CHARLES B. RANGEL
Press Releases

U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515 CONTACT: Emile Milne
(202) 225-4365

PRESS CONFERENCE: 2:00 P.M. TODAY
Room H-322

STATEMENT BY
HON. CHARLES RANGEL

THE VOTE ON THE BILL TO REINSTATE THE DRAFT IS A POLITICAL MANEUVER TO PROTECT THE PRESIDENT

WASHINGTON, October 5, 2004 -- The Republican leadership decision to place the draft legislation on the Suspension Calendar is a political maneuver to kill rumors of the President's intention to reinstate the draft after the November election.

I am voting no, because my bill deserves serious consideration. It should be subject to hearings and to expert testimony. The Administration should come and tell us about our manpower needs, about recruitment and retention, about the extent to which out troops are overextended. And they should give us their views about shared sacrifice. If they did all of those things in a serious way, they would have to admit that my bill is an option.

But what we are seeing now is election-year politics. They are using the Suspension Calendar, which is reserved for non-controversial items, to make a cynical political statement. The American people are deeply concerned about this issue deserve more than this. So do our troops, who after we leave here today, will still be on ground, and left with the message that we couldn't take the time to discuss their situation and what should be done to relieve them.

This is hypocrisy of the worst kind. I would not encourage any Democrat running for reelection to vote for this bill.

This would make an excellent commercial for the Republicans. But they rarely take the opportunities that they are given.

In other words, the registered democratic voters are jumping ship because their congressional leaders have lost their collective minds.

I love it.

We will now be a one party nation with tyrants and treason the only distraction.

I am not a history genius but I don't think that any draft has been instigated by a Republican President since Abraham Lincoln.

Any history buffs out there know for sure?
