Two RINOs often not seen as such would be Senators Lugar and Hagel, wouldn't they?

Thanks for the additional comments. I must admit that I did a brief scan of the article, reading about 2/3rds of it word for word. There may be some issues that I'd take with parts of it, but the overall emphasis is something that needs addressing IMO.

I think it's a given that the War on Terror is background on every issue these days, even if not mentioned by name. I understand where you are coming from though.

Take care.

What's his stand on illegal immigration?

This "divisive garbage" is a direct result of all these closet socialists in the Rep. party that have worked overtime to open the borders, give Social Security to illegals, ignore over 70 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities, the FTAA, the (un)Patriot Act, the Homeland Security farce (shaking down gray haired folks in airports but leaving the borders porous) and on and on. They've set up and are selling out you and your children but all you can do is attack someone trying to speak the truth ..... rectal/cranial inversion......it's a curable condition.

I'm trying to respond on short breaks at work. I didn't see the comment you linked. I responded to the article. If I had seen his comment and had time, I would remind him or anyone that we have a vested interest in this, even if we don't see eye to eye with Bush. Taking him to task on that point is certainly reasonable. It was my understanding that you objected to the article. That's why I responded as I did.

Take care.

Probably a bit tougher than Bush but not much. However, the best guy for tightening immigration is Tom Tancredo (R-CO), another favorite of mine, but he's probably not electable.

I might not have made myself clear in my responses; I was replying to the STAY AT HOME remark.

Now is not the time to divide the troops which would give Kerry an undeserved edge in the election one month from now. All this article seeks to do is put the Democrats back into the majority. It is counterproductive to the author's hopes, wishes, and dreams.

Amen to that. Those three guys are my favorites for the 2008 Presidential nomination. Owens especially. I thought Santorum was pretty young, are you sure he wasn't born before 1961?

Santorum was born May 10, 1958

I wouldn't want him to run because he pushed the Santorum Amendment in which he tried to replace evolution with creationism nationally.

Tancredo is an intelligent man, a patriotic American and served at on time a vital and well positioned "canary in a coal mine" beacon on the illegal immigration issue.

But, like McClintock, he's become a tool of the radicals who are doing him NO FAVORS in his political efforts.

When he, as a Coloradan Rep, went down to Cochise and Pima counties to campaign against fellow GOP House members' Jim Kolbe and Jeff Flake's guest visa proposal - in THEIR BACK YARDS - that was the height of stupidity on his part.

Kolbe is one of the most respected and powerful GOP leaders in the House of Representatives and Flake is a young, vulnerable rep who was put into a ridiculously tenuous postition by Tancredo's encroachment. He betrayed the party, and many of the wild eyed folks who drew him there were blaming the GOP for subsequently shunning him and sheyatcanning HIS important initiatives.

Whatever national career Tancredo had, whatever legitimacy he could have garnered by being a measured and persistant stalwart in highlighting and sheherding legislation meant to address the Border challenges was in one moment sent circling around the 'loo bowl.

But he made the fever swamp demanders in those counties, and around this place, deliriously delighted. They put a fist in the face of "the man". Well, "the man" kicked Randy Graf's butt in the primary, he'll win again easily in the General and all the folks here who demand a voice, bully their opinions become more isolated, impotent and invisible.

That's what I mean by "smart approaches". Tancredo listend to the barking seals, made some really poorly conceived moves to win adulation, and his career is in heading in the tank.

If I have to pay to take care of traffic accident victims who lack insurance (or money), allow me to try to minimize my costs.

Or, translated: "If they're going to steal my money to give away and buy votes, maybe they'll steal just a little less if I give up some more freedom of choice and personal responsibility."

Time to broom a hell of a lot of politicians and a hell of a lot of "carefully crafted" legislation, isn't it?

Not at all.

I'm saying that if people take personal responsibility for their accidents, then I don't care if they ride naked. But, in today's society, the bleeding hearts insist on taking my money to pay for their hospitalization.

Now, if I'm footing the bill, then allow me to try to minimize my cost by insisting on helmets and seat belts.

You want personal freedom? Then take personal responsibility.

Democrats still have a filibuster, and they are not shy about using it.

Wrong.  There has been no filibuster used for years and years and years ...  The Dems are quick to threaten to filibuster, and the R's don't seem to have the spine to call their bluff - to force them to put up or shut up.
