IMUS: Yes. I have a picture here of youa pretty attractive photograph of you on the cover of Runners World.
EDWARDS: Yes. And somebody told me you said I hadnt run a real marathon.
IMUS: Well, you havent run New York or Boston, have you?
EDWARDS: No. Are those the only marathons in the country?
In light of the marathons Edwards ran above,...
These people don't have a sincere bone in their bodies.
Good luck on Ironman.
I probably ran 25 marathons, but I gurantee you that even when I was in the best shape of my life I couldn't have finished the Ironman. Big hat tip.
What is the term used for runners in the Boston Marathon, who did not qualify, or who do not have a Runner number, but run in the marathon anyway?
Bandits-Just Googled
Bandits Boston marathon
I remember John A. Kelly [won it in '35], and John J. Kelly [won it in '57] they were both still running in it in the 60s when I used to go see it before it became a big deal. Don't remember a John F. Kerry.
Oh, wait, in 1970, just before the lead runner came in, I was under the reviewing stand, in front of the Prudential tower, when some people ran down the home stretch with a banner that said "Balmy in Boston, Bombing in Cambodia" Maybe that was Kerry.
Tomorrow morning I'll run three miles along Mission Bay in San Diego, and try to stay under 24 minutes.
This is 25 years after I graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training a few miles away in Coronado. I guess I'm just glad I'm still able to run at 47; many of my compadres cannot any more.
But seriously, I want to salute your qualification for and participation in the Hawaiian Ironman! Not many folks can even imagine the dedication and sacrifice that feat entails.
SALUTE!
I'm 50 and can't even spell ruuun rnnu roon ruinn.....
Our day was a six mile jog in 40 minutes so yer on par . A half hour swim, a few hours of free weights and nautilis torture followed by anything our NCOIC could conjur up.
My life of low mileage and sudden stops has taken their toll. I'll swim for hours now but rnnu rnu urn roon er whatever ain't in my vocabulary anymore in present condition. Good on ya for staying healthy ! How many years were ya active ??
I think Edwards was being just a bit sarcastic. 26.2 is 26.2.
5 Ironmans?
Well hey, I ran a 15:45 5k, so there... (shuffles off, defeated.)
Thanks for supplying all the specifics.
You ARE kidding....he's LYING or he would know the year since the BOSTON Marathon is the biggest deal IN Boston, his home town.
Clintonesque. He isn't saying in this sentence he actually ran.
Besides, can you really run the Boston Marathon wearing flip flops?
"5 Ironmans?"
This will be number 12 all totaled (6th Hawaii).
Aloha!
I can still drive 6 miles.
This morning something else came back to me. The first mention I ever saw of Kerry in a marathon was some article about the medical status of the candidates, Bush and Kerry. Kerry was quoted along the lines that he's not a heart attack risk because he is a marathon runner and has the blood pressure and pulse rate of a marathon runner.
As this was the first I'd ever heard of it, I tended to assume that if anything he had run more than one marathon and that the activity continued into recent times. It makes no sense to cite a marathon you ran in 1979 +-3 as protecting you from anything in 2004.
Should have made allowance that it was a Kerry statement in an election.
