Like flies to flypaper. Whatever few 'patriotic Iraqis' survive and return home will have grim stories to tell. Word is already spreading of Syrian and other regional jihadis who have gone back home and told desperate stories of being unsupported by the Iraqi people, and massacred by the Americans. I hope that these stories spread far and wide.

Under the Law of War, ununiformed fighters from nations outside the nation of fighting are "illegal combatants." They are to be treated no differently than spies caught behind the lines. Such men are subject to being shot on sight, or at most, given "drumhead" or military tribunal trials, followed by execution.

This was the law under which the British hanged Nathan Hale in Manhattan, in the American Revolution. General Washington followed the same law in hanging Major John Andre in New Jersey (he was the contact for General Benedict Arnold's treachery). This was the same law under which American military executed by firing squad certain Germans and others during the occupation after WW II.

It is time to get tough. Let the drumhead trials and executions begin.
