Israelis force down Lufthansa jet
BBC ^ | 10/5/2004 | BBC

Posted on 10/05/2004 6:37:20 AM PDT by Rutles4Ever

Israeli jet fighters have forced an incoming Lufthansa airliner to land in Cyprus after a bomb alert that German officials had not considered serious. "We wanted to fly to Tel Aviv but the Israeli authorities forced us to land in Larnaca," said a Lufthansa official.

The flight from Frankfurt landed safely and security staff are searching it.

Three passenger jets - two from Greece to New York and one British Airways flight from Berlin - have been diverted after bomb hoaxes in the last 10 days.

"We came to the conclusion with the German authorities that this alert was not serious," a spokeswoman told the AFP news agency.

The threat was transmitted by telephone call to the Lufthansa office in Frankfurt.

There were 331 passengers and 18 crew on board the Boeing 747-400 jet, the spokeswoman said.

Not only did they not send trops to Iraq, they, along with france, did everything they could to stop OUR troops from going. They can both sink into the hellhole of 3rd world muslim nations, joining the list of "must eradicate" terrorist sponsors.

"Germany IS a strategic valuable country, and I wouldn´t say that if I weren´t believing it."

Saying it (or believing it) doesn't make it true.

>>Cool down, lol. I am German, and I certainly doubt that deliberating with partners before pre-emptive strikes means giving them a veto on your security.<<

Actually. . .it does.

If you consult with "partners" it is a sure bet if those partners disagree strongly with you (like in Iraq), they would leak your intentions and that, in effect, is a veto. Just look at the mess the Balkans became when you have 14 nations tinkering with the strategic campaign plan. . .the target list was leaked and the target sets identified publicly. . .the end result a lot of rocks and empty buildings moved around and to no strategic end.

"This is not about Kerry or Bush, this is about foreign affairs which could affect the US."

Foreign affairs do effect the United States.

I for one do not want the United Nations deciding what is best for the United States when it comes to "foreign affairs" of any type.

Hello-o? This is not about Kerry/Bush, this is about terror hoaxes

Excuse me sir, but I never mentioned Bush, Kerry, or the election. But I know someone who's monopolized the thread with those subjects.....

Call me a lib or whatever, I don´t care what you say. Just distinguish between your national campaign and the foreign.

And another thing, I find it VERY arrogant for you to come on an AMERICAN conservative site and tell us what we should and shouldn't do and what we should and shouldn't discuss. The nerve.

If y´all wanted to talk about the election, alright, I can wait. But don´t mix your negative feelings towards Kerry with other countries. Thanks and see you again on Nov. 3rd ;-)

You can wait? Ha! How big of you. Perhaps you can find a better German web site to visit until then.

“But the issue, gentlemen, the issue is communism, and the question is whether or not we will leave that country to the Communists or whether or not we will try to give it hope to be a free people.
But the point is they are not a free people now under us. They are not a free people, and we cannot fight communism all over the world, and I think we should have learned that lesson by now....” John Kerry, Winter soldier hearings APRIL 22, 1971
Do you really believe that this is a man that is concerned about Germany? Had John Kerry had his way there would still be a wall in Berlin.
I think that Germany should be very concerned over who the leader of the free world is.

Yea, imagine if an individual, say from Israel, came to the forum to express an opinion.

Sheesh, get a grip.

"Hello-o? This is not about Kerry/Bush, this is about terror hoaxes! And this not only affects Germans or French, but also Americans and British, Israelis and Italians!"

What is interesting to me is that some of the countries on that list are doing something about terrorism, there are two countries (FRANCE AND GERMANY) who are trying to run interference for the terrorists.

Hello(hyphen)o yerself feller.

This thread and the posters post you responded to did not mention anything about the election.

You will see lots of critizm of the Republicans here from the President on down.

Ya gotta pay attention though.

Oh and yea, it affects the Germans and the French, and why not throw in the Russians too?

They were all against overthrowing Saddam because they didn't mind a Terrorist Dictator killing and raping and maiming (along with his sons) innocent people just for their perverse pleasure so they could make money from the Oil Smuggling and selling MUNITIONS TO KILL OUR SOLDIERS to Saddam.

So who would you like to support, the USA or Kerry's Foreign Leader Supporters?

(yea I mentioned the election, did you know it is taking place in Viet Nam?)

For us, the United States are our most important partner for the defense with nuclear weapons.

Well for goodness sake, support us then.

We is willing to support you supporting us.

But if you support Kerry, you support our enemies.

These months, FR is nothing else than a "SUPPORT BUSH"-site. Every topic, whether domestic or foreign is related to the Bush/Kerry race. Pretty boring, and even worse, not a very reasonable style of discussion.

Agreed.

After reading some of the responses I have to say it was a good post. Many are hyper focused on the up coming election but you are right the rest of the world and events are not necessarily focused on our election.

It is a good post and is one of those "I seem to remember" type posts for possible later reference.

They sure were rude to me as an American, but if I spoke Russian they were civil. I do admit, Lufthansa is a class airline.

Well, what are we talking about? Are we talking about behaving as you please worldwide or are we talking about a veto about the national security of the US? If we were talking about the first, you could indeed leave NATO, the UN, the OSCE, because talking would make no sense anymore. If we were talking about the latter, your given example of Kosovo is not fitting, because the situation in Serbia never posed a threat to the alliance. I agree with you that some nations in the alliance have consistently undermined the efforts in the war and cooperated with the enemy. Though, it was not a veto.

Let´s say Kerry will be elected, and your European partners continue to cooperate with America - is that supporting the enemy? Do you want us to boycott America once Kerry is sworn in? Certainly not. We both live in democratic societies, and I currently have a leader whom I despise. But he´s still my Chancellor, and in case of war he´d be my CIC, no matter what comes. I don´t have to pay respect to the person, but to the office he holds.

It started with message #2 or 3, OldFriend mentioned Sen. Kerry and his "kitchen cabinet". Bringing the campaign into this thread was too much for me. But unrelated to the actual topic of this thread, an interesting discussion has evolved.

You said that Germany took profit from oil smuggling and armament sales to Iraq. Any evidence for this claim?

Sure, Germany is not engaged in the war on terrorism, and all the soldiers outta my country are just pretending to be Germans... Ma´am, please do a little research on the sites of the DoD to check who is supporting you and who´s not. You will find out that Iraq is not all.
