Jakarta (AsiaNews) After tens of armed militants belonging to the Islamic Defender Front (Front Pembela Islam or FPI) rushed into the Saint Bernadette of the Child Jesus (Sang Timur) Catholic complex in Cileduk, Tangerang, Banten province (35-40 km west from Jakarta), church and school were closed and masses cancelled.
Following last Friday prayers at a local mosque during which inflammatory sermons were made against the Christian community at least fifty shouting Muslims attacked the Catholic complex. They burnt the front gate and blocked other exits as their numbers swelled to include even more militants, including tens of Muslim women. Under the threat of machete- and knife-wielding attackers, worshippers who were celebrating the Eucharist fled the church.
In the name of peace and to avoid further provocation we left the church, one of the worshippers said.
Since trouble was brewing in the air police had already been deployed which prevented the worst from happening.
The parish priest cancelled yesterdays and todays masses. The school will also stay closed today and tomorrow because the Sisters of the Child Jesus who run it are too frightened to reopen it.
A local resident, Ms Ratna, said that she was deeply concerned for her childrens safety since all of them study at the Sang Timur School. Some 3,000 pupils attend the FPI-threatened school.
Yesterdays incident was not the first one in the history of the Cileduk parish whose congregation is made up of mostly ethnic Chinese.
According to radical Muslims the church and the school are guilty of proselytising because the Catholic parish is located within the school compound. Both the Sister of the Child Jesus and parishioners reject the accusation. Local Christians do use the schools main hall for worship only because local government authorities have hitherto refused them the necessary permit to build a new church even though the site for the building has already been purchased and money for its construction has been raised.
In the last few years, Jakarta, Sulawesi and the Molucca Islands have been torn by inter-communal warfare between Muslims and Christians. The conflict ended with a peace accord in 2002. However, since then, there have been sporadic outbreaks of violence and intolerance. (MH)
Catholic Ping - let me know if you want on/off this list
Next stop...France?
I am sorry, but as I said it on another post,
I believe that not only is the American way
of life under fire, but the islamists are
waging a holy war on Christians in this country.
When is our government going to wake up?
I'll tell you, I don't want to hear another
PC freak try to talk to me about "profiling"
of muslim, arabs, etc. and how "wrong" it is.
If we are going to save our lives here, we have
to "profile".
So they are getting away with it in Jakarta...they\
are trying to get away with it here.
On Judgement Day, these folks will have lots of splainin to do.
This article is more news of old news ie., we've known all along that Islam is anything but the "religion of peace"
"islamists are
waging a holy war on Christians in this country."
Islam is waging a global war on those who aren't islamic. In their words we're all infidels. The Dixie Chics who claim to be so independant would be shackled and burqa'd by now if it weren't for American "freedom". Think about it. American liberals are dumb sheets.
Muslim numbers in the U.S. are not yet sufficient for them to attack Christians, but it will happen if this problem is not addressed in our country soon. It's my belief that the wholesale dilution of the Christian faith in the West is the main reason why we no longer see the Enemy as he stands right before our eyes and smirks at our stupidity.
As we allow the evils of abortion, homosexuality, pornography, no-fault divorce, grossly immodest dress, and every other sin to proliferate, why would anyone think that the army of the Enemy isn't already amongst us? People don't seem to see evil for what it is anymore, we rely on science, the police or our politicians to protect or sustain us. Meanwhile, mosques are being built all over our country. Mosques that will inevetably preach how 'evil' the Infidel is, mosques that will foster violent reaction against non-muslims. If it's happening in Indonesia and the Sudan, in the Philippines and Somalia, in the Balkans and the middle east, in Russia and Kashmir, how can anyone think it won't be coming here soon?

I agree, it's the lack of integrity, respect, accountability as happened in ancient Rome that causes a great nation to self implode. Many police are getting disgusted and discouraged about making arrests when the perps are coddled and released the same day when the police risk life and limb for small salaries only to be mocked by the very system they work for.
Is there a "Religion of Peace" ping list?
I know...the sad part is that muslims here are
doing things on smaller scales of course. In reference
to an article I read on line a year ago, in the city of San Diego, and now in Canada, police and other officials have community service people who "work with" muslim community "leaders" (probably mullahs like the Taliban) to
act as a buffer for the kids, women, people who get in trouble or to have an "understanding" of their culture, etc.
Makes me sick! If you are here in the U.S. and you are keeping your wife locked in the house, you can go to jail for that.
I wrote a letter to the editor in protest but it wasn't printed.
I stated that there should not be two sets of rules for the police to operate because of a "cultural" difference, especially when that "culture" is one of oppression of basic rights, especially rights in THIS country.
Check out neighborhoods that have a lot of RECENT immigrants (refugees) from know terrorist countries like Somalia and see how they are toward white Americans.
My friend Mary who lives in San Diego from time to time would walk through a section of San Diego known unofficially as little Mogadishu. Anyway, Mary said that at different times recently, they hold up signs condeming Bush and they harrass people in the neighborhood and tell them they are going to hell because they aren't muslim, etc.
I am sure this isn't the only place in the U.S. it is happening.
"American liberals are dumb sheets."
IMHO, American liberals are domestic terrorists. They aid America's enemies from the inside.
"I stated that there should not be two sets of rules for the police to operate because of a "cultural" difference, especially when that "culture" is one of oppression of basic rights, especially rights in THIS country."
Very true, this is a small part of a big plan to dismantle our country bit by bit, piece by piece(peace by peace) aka DIVIDE and CONQUER (Trojan Horse)
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Why is it that some people don't see it.
Look at abortion rights people. They are
working to get this country into the same
boat as China. First you have "abortion rights",
then you have forced abortions. I see it happening
unless there is a new revolution in the country to
start putting liberal, PC elitists in their place.
I guess I don't SOUND like atruelady. I am just sick
of warped mentality that decimates the right to believe
in God and the sanctity of human life and private property rights.
bump
They are free to try, but they will meet a somewhat different fate than in Indonesia.
But why would anyone accuse Catholics of "proselytism?" From my years in the Church I remember that they took great pride in never trying to convert anyone and routinely condemned silly Fundamentalists for engaging in such reactionary, irrational, and bigoted behavior.
