...military's major weapons programs have come under scrutiny from prosecutors and military procurement specialists ... Darleen Druyun's courtroom admission Friday that she systematically steered various contracts to Boeing Co.
Ms. Druyun was the Air Force's second-highest contracting officer for nearly a decade before she went to work as a Boeing vice president in December 2002. ... she negotiated her $250,000 Boeing job while overseeing the company's Air Force contracts, and on Friday was sentenced to nine months in prison for conspiracy to violate conflict-of-interest laws prohibiting such conduct.
...
... Ms. Druyun admitted handing Boeing a $4 billion project to upgrade C-130 transport planes in 2001 as part of "her perceived indebtedness" to the company for employing her family. The win was particularly striking at the time, because rival Lockheed Martin Corp. manufactured the planes and was believed to have the inside track for the modernization work.
...
In the most far-reaching scheme, court documents say she approved inflated prices for a proposed $23 billion program to lease aerial-tankers from Boeing, as a way to "ingratiate herself" with the company and provide "a parting gift to Boeing" before resigning from the Air Force. Such actions mean that "many questions [have been] raised" about existing Air Force contracts, "and many investigations will result," lead prosecutor Robert Wiechering told the judge.
Boeing should be smacked around long and hard for this.
THis may go right back to Linda Dasschle, Tom's wife...she's a big lobbyist for Boeing..helped to push this deal through..she just might decide to cut a deal..
begone..troll!
Yea, not only does Bush appoint dog catchers in Gobblers Knob, Kentucky but he also personally picks procurement officers for the pentagon.
The trollop in question was a GS rating for a decade before 2002 when she was hired by Boeing. That makes it at least 1992. So which Bush are you blithering about, 41 or 43? And when was she promoted to a position where she could make Boeing contract decisions? Did she spring up to GS 30 fully growed? Sounds more like a BJ & Evita Clinton chumnik to me. More likely with a tie to Ms Linder Bin-Daeschle the moolah of Aberdeen.
Hmmmm.
1993-2002.
I wonder who was President during most of those years?...
I have personally briefed this lady and participated in many meetings with her. She is a career civil servant who knew her business of Air Force procurement. She was refered to as the "Dragon Lady" when I was in the Pentagon. I am sure there are many that feel it is finally payback time.
No doubt a dedicated person; however, she stayed in her post way too long and kept the her blue suiters jumping! I think she got impressed with her position and power (read her own press clippings) and decided that Boeing was the place she should be. Power and position after a while tend to corrupt absolutely!
So what involvement or "culpability" might the General in question have? Or is he just an innocent bystander? Or is that usually an oxymoron referring to a 4 star? :)
Please restate your question: I cant seem to follow what you are implying. What General? Darleen was a civil servant, not a 4 star General.
