The White House has told House Republicans that it wants them to remove provisions in their intelligence-overhaul bill that would crack down on illegal aliens' obtaining drivers' licenses, allow easier deportation and limit the use of foreign consular ID cards. The Senate's bill lacks those provisions, and as the two chambers race toward trying to pass a bill before the Nov. 2 election, the measures are a potential stumbling block. The White House wants those provisions out, according to a congressional source familiar with the bill. "They have expressed desire to kill some of the immigration provisions and gut some of others," the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Rosemary Jenks, a lobbyist for stricter immigration controls for the group NumbersUSA , who has been tracking the bill, said White House policy officials met with Republican staffers to urge them to remove the provisions, even though White House officials initially had signed off on those same provisions before the bill was introduced officially. "The White House was involved in the negotiations before the bill was introduced, and now, for some reason, it has come back and decided to insist that the main provisions, the most effective provisions of the bill, be gutted," she said. She said House Republican leaders appear to be standing firm in refusing the White House demands. A White House spokesman did not return a call for comment yesterday. ***
"This goes to the very heart of the entire conspiracy of 9/11," he said. "These people entered the country, got driver's licenses, used those driver's licenses to obtain the services they needed, and then used those driver's licenses to get on the plane."

I too live in California. This invasion has made illegal immigration my pet issue so I have followed it relentlessly for several years now. The laws are already on the books to stop the invasion. They just need to be enforced, specifically by Asa Hutchinson (who answers to Pres. Bush).
And yes, this issue affects my votes. However I believe Kerry (as most dems are) would be worse on this issue.
That is why I am active. I have sent faxes and made phone calls this morning to my representative, the White House, Speaker Hastert's office, and Asa Hutchinson. We need to let them all know how we feel about this issue. Withholding your vote tells them nothing (in my honest opinion).
we do have the answer. ORIN HATCH R wants to pass the DREM Education bill - we pay for the illegals education. CASE CLOSED - look it up
Ditto, I will not vote in the federal elections at all .
Read again what I wrote. I'm not even touching the presidential candidates. One is no better than the other on this issue. What I wrote is in essence a way to tell the illegal immigrants to be on their best behavior while here. What I want curtailed immediately is the opportunistic criminal element that enters our country.
Thanks for the info. Reminded me to request more petitions from the good folks at SaveOurLicense.com.
I guess we can have a party on November 2, 2004. We can serve up Mexican food. After all, it's the illegal hispanic population that wins regardless of which party wins the election.
White House comment line: (202) 456-1111. President Bush needs to get MANY calls about this latest outrage!

McCain? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!
The sad part is we loose.
The attempt to win hispanic votes will drive Social Security bankrupt years earlier than expected and make America a 3rd world nation for our kids..
Ahhh just collateral damage on the road to power
Are you a part of the dump Dreier movement there ?
The problem is to "power" the illegals are a God send as they save them $$$ . To the rest of America it means downward pressure on wages, and higher state, county and city taxes to cover the cost of the social programs and education of the kids.
Hey them that has gets..
Our founders have to be turning over in their graves
The thread is already up.
Al-Qaida Infiltrated U.S. Military Meal Company? WND ^
Posted on 10/04/2004 8:55:55 AM
U.S. officials are probing the possibility the al-Qaida terrorist network sought to infiltrate a Texas company in order to contaminate ready-to-eat meals designated for the military.
A high-ranking al-Qaida operative provided information leading authorities to nearly a dozen illegal immigrants working for the McAllen, Texas-based Wornick Co., the largest supplier of the meals, according to McAllen's The Monitor newspaper.
The firm that places the workers at Wornick has been charged with conspiring to make and use false employment eligibility verification forms.
janet, see 113.
No, I do not live in Dreier's district. However our congressman, Bill Thomas, has a worse record.
Sickening.... yet our fearless leader wants to make it easier for illegals to continue the invasion. Unbelievable. I left a whopper of a comment on the White House comment line. Of course they probably don't care, they will push their agenda until America goes down the drain.
Do you wonder if any of them care? What ever happened to a government by the people and for the people? Today they do not give a damn what the voters want.
Dead on accurate and well said.
I just fired off an e-mail to Lou Dobbs at CNN on this story.
The Bush Administration needs to explain to the American People just why they want to gut major provisions of the intelligence overhaul bill. Maybe Lou Dobbs can get one of Bush's Spin Artists on his show to explain it.
BTW, Lou regularly covers stories on Illegal Immigration and closely follows the issues of his viewers. Drop him an e-mail about this. He will cover it.
Thanks Joe. Will do. Looks like I'll need an extra-dose of blood pressure pills before I read it.
Has President Bush ever given a decent explanation for his unwillingness to close and seal our borders against all illegal immigration? If he has, I missed it.
