Welcome to the collectivists' New World Order...
"its a blatant attempt to force the peasants back into mass transit and riding bicycles"
....and when they succeed at this, they'll just find another way to make up for all the 'lost' revenue of people avoiding the taxman.
My point is that highways are not a natural freedom, they are the result of other people's time and money and their unfettered use shouldn't be taken as a right - because that is where someone else's obligation begins.
I think government tracking for surveillance purposes is an unreasonable fetter, and hope enough people agree it would not become reality. But I would have no problem with the economics a pay by usage system - but I suppose that in reality that is inseperable from the surveillance aspect.
Are you sure it's not working?
If just paying for it makes it work, I have to assume the Onstar people can just turn it back on, or more likely, just start monitoring it whenever they want. Sure, I guess you are right, it's probably still on.
I wonder how easy it is to disconnect.
