I am proud and excited to vote for G W Bush.
His leadership after 9/11 on the war on terror has been excellent. taking out the AQ Khan network, defeating the Taliban
and taking out Saddam Hussein, and capturing or killing most of the Al Qaeda leadership was great. we did the right thing - in Afghanistan, in iraq, in Librya, in the whole GWOT. It was about time we declared war on terrorists!
Not just that, but the transformation of the DoD has been excellent, we have a great leader in Rumsfeld.
Bush's leadership in nominating conservative Judges, defending our values, has been suberb. This include defending the unborn, but goes way beyond it. what a change from Clinton!
His passage of the largest tax cuts in 20 years was Reaganesque ... it was the right tax cuts, at the right time, for the right reason. our economy is now booming thanks to the tax cuts.
It's lunacy to talk of the second best President in my lifetime (after Reagan) as a 'lesser' of anything.
Single-issue immigration lunacy, handing the election over to pro-anmesty democrats, will lead you to electoral and cultural oblivion. It's really simple: Most Republicans, including my own Congressman are on the correct side on immigration (he's Lamar Smith). Him and Tancredo and Saxby Chambliss and a host of others are fighting to reform immigration laws and protect our borders ... and their allies are ALL REPUBLICANS.
... WHO DO YOU THINK THEY ARE VOTING FOR AND SUPPORTING STRONGLY? PRESIDENT BUSH!!
It's not difficult to see: You want immigration laws to get fixed so we stop illegal immigration - vote Republican, and hold them to the fire. You want amnesty? Sit on your hands and let the Democrats win. Anyone who defeats Republicans is defeating our only chance to defend our borders and stop illegal immigration. But this is just one of 20 issues that will get worse if Kerry is elected.
WOSG, most of the points you made in your post were excellent and well taken (seriously, you have made me at least reconsider my positions).
However, as "looney" as it sounds, many of us down here along the border DO consider many of the illegal aliens terrorists. We you to add up the murders and other violent crimes that illegal Mexicans committed each year, I think you would find that it eclipses the numbers of 9/11. Year after year.
And I have seen gangs of these illegal invaders (I believe that is the correct term), indeed TERRORIZE entire neighborhoods, including entire police precints. Kids are gunned down, people get caught in the crossfire, to the tune of 600 people in the city limits of LA alone. People witness things, and are PETRIFIED to talk. The cops don't want to cross these, and people end keeping their kids indoors, and conduct themselves as if they are living in a war zone. And this is occuring in neighborhoods RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. Not in Iraq. But here, in your country. And GWB is doing not one damn thing about it.
Now, most of us are fortunate that we don't happen to be in these places. I used to live in just such a place, and got out ... but i've seen it up close and real personal.
Terrorists don't all wear towels on their heads. Most of our terrorists don't.
Yes, we do have enough "bad people" who are American Citizens that also commit crime, that we certainly don't need to import them.
And when whole groups of people illegally sneak into the country to commit these horrible crimes, I call them what they are .... Terrorists.
And, therefore, when taken in totality, I personally view the "War on Terrorism" as a complete and utter failure. We've targeted nd neutralized a minority group of Terrorists, while completely ignoring those who cause more harm to the US.
The "war" is spun to Victory, but those of us who know better, know full well that they still walk among us, and guess what .... those guys wearing towels on their head (the ones the media tells us to fear the most), are fully aware of the pourous southern border.
Something to think about before your feeling too victorious.
Again, your other points are very well taken, and I appreciate the food for thought that you provided.

The Republican whip was on Lou Dobbs. Looks like the republican congress is going to fight Bush on this illegal issue after Bush insisted any document safeguards be dropped, ie. licenses, etc from the house bills. They do listen when people complain loud enough.
