Rep. Garrett: Troops in Iraq Angry at Media Coverage
NewsMax.com ^ | 03 Sept. 2004 | Staff Report

Posted on 10/03/2004 8:39:48 PM PDT by txradioguy

U.S. soldiers in Iraq are growing increasingly angry over distorted coverage of their mission in Western press accounts, a New Jersey congressman who recently traveled to Baghdad said Saturday.

"Every time we met with soldiers, men and women . . . they would always bring up the frustration level; the frustration with CNN, BBC and other broadcasting outlets," Scott Garrett, R-N.J., told WABC Radio's Monica Crowley.

"The first thing they would say," said Garrett, "is 'How come all the good stuff we're doing is not being broadcast back at home?'

"And they were just angry about it," he added.

Garrett, who spent a week in Iraq last month, said that despite the violence of recent weeks, "when you talk to the troops, when you see what's really happening on the ground over there, you realize that we are moving ahead, that we are making progress."

He noted, for instance, that the Abu Ghraib prison - which for the American press has become symbolic of a mission gone off the tracks - now houses a hospital as well as detention cells.

"In that hospital, they not only treat American soldiers," said Garrett, "but Iraqi children who have been wounded in all these terrorist attacks."

As a military journalist who spent a year in Iraq I can not only vouch for the anger of the soldiers over there at they way we are being covered in the MSM, but can add my own anger and frustration over it as well.

You are seeing this increasingly. I get emails from a marine there, and that has been the context of many of her recent emails.

Ditto! It is so hard to talk to you son or daughter over the phone and hear the anger and pain that they feel about the MSM. We have been getting this feedback from our sons who have been in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

I was reading one of the military blogs from over there tonight and they were talking about a recent NPR story on them totally distorted what they were doing and trying to say. It's disgusting.

All of the congresscritters from BOTH sides of the aisle that came over there saw what was REALLY going on over there and have been supporting us. You can tell the ones who haven't had the guts to go over there since Saddam was run outta town....they're the ones saying "wrong war...blah blah blah"

Kerry is stabbing our troops in the back again. First it was Vietnam, now it's Iraq. Let's pray that this election nightmare will be over soon with the reelection of George W Bush.

You would think the RNC would have the brains to put out a spot with troops giving their assesment of our progress and their opinion of the red SOB's in the MSM's Iraq coverage.

Too bad the RNC is run by a bunch of clowns.

I try to let them know as often as I can BG. You've read my stuff I posted on here last year. The problem is that all of us in uniform telling everyone we know what is really going on over there STILL can't overcome what the MSM spews out of the idiot box at night. *sigh*

They should understand it...it is very simple.

The democrats and their bed-mates the main-stream-media, want to overthrow a conservative president no matter what the cost to the country, or the world, for that matter.

They want power back so badly that they will do and say anything to undermine the president and the brave men and women fighting for freedom and security for America.

They do not want any good news out of Iraq, only gloom and doom and disasters. So please, just say nothing and continue to risk your lives so they have the freedom to carry on with their despicable scheme.

We are equally angry. I hope they know that many of us do know the good things they are doing, and how very proud we are of them!!!

Only if Kerry is elected will the media report all the good things our troops are doing.

I heard some guy on the left whine on the tv the other day that if it was so safe, why wouldn't the defense dept give him permission to travel over there. But, then these guys go. Makes you wonder why they won't let this (insert appropriate description) go. Last thing our troops need is some idiot complaining about the job they are doing to their faces.

He should have told them the truth, John Kerry and his liberal friends think we are back in Vietnam again and does not care what the troops think or feel, just like they didn't when Kerry returned from Vietnam.

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS

"The first thing they would say," said Garrett, "is 'How come all the good stuff we're doing is not being broadcast back at home?'

Because the MSM, in collusion with Libs, want the US military to fail. Why? Because military failure = defeat of Bush and election of Kerry.

As a former 71Q in Korea and a mother of a son who just returned from Iraq as a medic my anger and frustration at the MSM is also felt by our family. The only way to make sure that the good done by these young people is to keep sending good stories to the local papers. They will cover their young military and the good things they are doing.

I wouldn't say it's run by clowns....just people who follow the rules.

The people in uniform who speak out and are quoted on behalf of the DNC are technically violating the UCMJ. Posting an opinion on here is no problem...publically speaking out at an event of any kind sponsored by one political party...big no no...but then that doesn't matter to sKerry...he was the "face" of VVAW while still a reservist in the USN.
