Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry may have violated the rules governing last Thursday's presidential debate.
According to Section 5 (pps 4 and 5) of the Memorandum of Understanding that was negotiated and agreed upon by both the Bush and Kerry campaigns:
(c) No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate. ...
(d) Notwithstanding subparagraph 5(c), the candidates may take notes during the debate on the size, color and type of paper each side prefers. Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium, table or other structure to be used by the candidate in that debate.
On Sunday, INDC Journal and Daily Recycler produced a video and close-up stills showing that Senator Kerry apparently violated the rules signed by his campaign.
The video shows Kerry pulling what looks like crib notes from his jacket and placing them on his lectern at the start of the debate.
The website zombietime.com has posted a frame-by-frame view of the event here.
Use of crib notes during the debate would constitute a material breach of Memorandum of Understanding, though it is unclear if Kerry would be sanctioned.

BREAKING ON DRUDGE... PHOTO OF KERRY WITH CHEAT SHEETS BEFORE DEBATE
They must be missing you at DU...hurry back.
In any Major College, if Kerry pulled a cheat sheet out of his pocket to take a test , he would of been expelled, mabye the FEC should expel John Kerry from running for President? NO HONOR , John Kerry, NO HONOR...shame, shame, shame.
I have a stupid question. Every time I post, my computer scrolls all the way up to the top. Is there a way to keep it down at the bottom of the conversation? And thanks for the welcome.
Maybe it's a pocket mirror and he's checking his makeup.
Two words. Pocket protector. The geek had his pens in a pocket protector. What was in the protector, I don't know, but the picture is easily explained.
I believe charts were materials that could be given to the folks ahead of time...they just could not bring them in at debate time.
And again, it doesn't matter. Taking ANYTHING out of his pocket violated the rules. ANYTHING.
In the big picture with the FNC logo, it is obviously a rigid piece of paper and not a handkerchief.
It looks almost certainly like a notecard.
NEWS Flash!
Dan Rather has sKerry's "notes" from the debate! It turns out that they were only a grocery list from his wife. They were typed in a monospace font consistent with the IBM Selectric typewriters of the early '70s!
Good gravy. This is stunning:

It's obvious that it was a paper of some sort, and Kerry took it out and put it on the podium. He was smiling all the time and turning away from the audience. It was so smooth. If I hadn't known that what he pulled out was banned, I never would have thought anything of his motions.
Kerry did not have a handkerchief, and he certainly did not use it on his nose, that sheet of paper.
It's possible that Bush saw Kerry pull the item out of his pocket and that is why Bush was so pi**ed.
Remember at the end of the debate Bush could barely say thank you to Kerry. There was no respect in his voice or look.
It is very important that Kerry be at least eligible on Election Day. Otherwise the Democrats will pull a Toricelli. Even if Bush wins the election, the Democrat's crime would put a cloud over his presidency.
I strongly respect Bush did know, and Lehrer is staring directly at him.
The more I watch this vid the angrier I am becoming. How DARE he?? I don't expect better of any of these people, but so thankful they are being caught on tape.
Sickening isn't it? It was a sleight-of-hand done so smoothly. The frame-by-frame video is stunning. It makes anyone with any moral values want to throw up. Yes, and I think the President saw what Kerry was doing and got mad.
Crook. Cheater. Liar. Traitor
All words that come to mind when I see kerry, but to watch him brazenly pull a cheat sheet out in front of everyone with that cocky grin.. I almost wish the prez had decked him.
I can only imagine how he felt. I'm sure he expected a setup, but outright fraud at the start?
