Israel accuses UN of letting militants use ambulance

JERUSALEM: Israel is to lodge a strong protest with the United Nations after releasing footage of what it says are Palestinian militants using a UN ambulance to transport rockets, Israeli Army Radio has reported.
But the UN agency for Palestinian refugees on Sunday denied the Israeli claims.
Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Gillerman, is to address a written protest to Secretary General Kofi Annan, the radio said over the weekend.
"The UN's role is to bring peace and not to give shelter to killers of women and children," it quoted the letter as saying. "The UN must set up a commission of enquiry to look deeply into the matter and find out if its employees have collaborated or been used."
He went on to accuse Peter Hansen, director of Unrwa, of being "heavily implicated in this problem."
"Peter Hansen is far from being considered a friend of Israel, on the contrary, he hates Israel," Gillerman said.
Hansen said Sunday on Israeli public television that the pictures showed nothing more than paramedics throwing a folded portable stretcher into the vehicle.
Israeli television broadcast video footage taken by a drone in the northern Gaza Strip of what it said were Palestinian militants carrying a Qassam rocket launcher getting into a vehicle with the UN logo on the roof.
The Israeli Army said one of its drones had shot the footage Friday above Jabaliya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.
"They were ambulance drivers and orderlies who were putting a portable stretcher into the car," he told Channel 1.
"I am very sure it is not a Qassam missile, from all descriptions, even though I am not a military expert," he said, adding that such a rocket would weigh at least 32 kilograms.
The Israeli accusation against the UN followed a UN complaint against Israel that its troops had taken over UN-run schools in the Gaza Strip, while children were still in class, and used them as firing positions for tanks.
"Unrwa strongly protests the totally unacceptable misuse of clearly marked UN installations and calls on the Israeli military to respect the neutrality of these places," said agency spokesman Matthias Burchard.
I saw when they played the video on Fox. This does not look like a rocket. Even the Fox reporter, Jennifer Griffin, commented that because they way it was being carried it could not be heavy enough to be a rocket. She stated it was probably a stretcher.
Yeah, but I'm pretty sure this action passes Kerry's "Global test."
That makes it more than merely okay.
It makes it the selected course of action.
Put it to a vote by the general assembly. Do they support Israel or Palestinians?
A global test.

Israel's UN envoy to demand removal of UNRWA chief
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/484003.html
Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman, will send a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Sunday, demanding the dismissal of Peter Hansen from his position as commissioner-general of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Work Agency).
The letter will communicate Israel's claim that Hamas is using UN ambulances as a means of smuggling arms and terrorists through the Gaza Strip.

Agency for Palestinian refugees?
The next thing you know is the UN will be involved in our elections in the US or some crazy thing like that.
"I gave them the keys but they were only supposed to park it around the corner."
I guess this wasn't worthy of breaking news or front page news.
Some of the crap that makes it into breaking news isn't even news.
heh
and they'll lie out their butts. Oh we were only loading the streatcher and it being held in such a way........
Get US out of the UN and the UN out of US.
Fox says it was a stretcher or are YOU saying it was a stretcher?
Those terrorists in those pictures above look real peaceful. heh
I don't think Fox has the authority to say it was a stretcher.
Nor do you...
Israel believes it was something more than that.
