TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran on Sunday rebuffed a proposal by U.S. presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) who has suggested supplying the Islamic state with nuclear fuel for power reactors if Tehran agrees to give up its own fuel-making capability.
Foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said it would be "irrational" for Iran to put its nuclear program in jeopardy by relying on supplies from abroad.
"We have the technology (to make nuclear fuel) and there is no need for us to beg from others," Asefi told a weekly news conference.
Washington says Iran plans to use its nuclear facilities to make atom bombs. Tehran says it merely wants to generate electricity from nuclear power.

However, in a related negotiation development, Iran has suggested to Kerry that it will supply the United States with oil if the United States gives up its oil producing and refining capacity.

Just like the Bill Clinton/Jimmy Carter solution in 1996; Give $5 billion to N.Korea if they agree to stop building nukes, and what does N. Korea do? Use the money to build more nukes and threaten the US.

Well, there's one Kerry foreign policy initiative down the toilet. And I believe France and Germany have already restated their disinterest in participating in Iraq, ya know, the

So Kerry is unable to buy off the mullahs? Why should this be a surprise? They had nothing but contempt for Jimmy Carter who put them into power.
I shall never forget the split screen television image from January 20, 1981:
On the left side was a jumbo jet loaded with our embassy hostages being blocked from takeoff on the tarmac in Tehran.
On the right side was the inauguration ceremony in Washington as Carter yielded the podium to Reagan.
As soon as Reagan completed the oath of office, the Iranians moved meekly out of the way and the plane with our hostages begin taxiing down the runway for takeoff.

On yet another related story, Kerry proposes that Iran be part of the "Global Test Graders" prior to any future preemptive strike.

Washington says Iran plans to use its nuclear facilities to make atom bombs. Atom bombs. I'm trying to remember when the last time was that I heard this quaint expression, and I'm drawing a blank. Yahoo seems to be trying to downplay Iran's intentions.

Isn't supplying fuel rods what led to North Korea getting nuclear weapons in the 90s?

Yeah, that was Jimmy Carter's deal: nuclear fuel and wheat (the wheat ensured that NK could divert its scarce resources into its nuclear program).
