WASHINGTON (AP) -- John Kerry on Saturday looked to frame the next presidential debate in a speech criticizing President Bush's economic record, but also tried to get in a final word about their last face-off by declaring himself the winner and Bush a liar.
"George Bush lost the debate," an announcer says in a television ad Kerry's campaign unveiled Saturday. "Now he's lying about it."
The Democratic presidential candidate's accusation comes two days after his first debate with Bush, when he told moderator Jim Lehrer that he avoids saying that the president is lying to the American people.
"I've never, ever used the harshest word, as you did just then," Kerry said. "And I try not to, but I'll nevertheless tell you that I think he has not been candid with the American people."

Main complaint about W and other Republicans is that they have allowed the Dems. to get away with slanderous lies and mean-spirited rhetoric for FOUR years!!! Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country!!
You're just mad at yourself for letting your communist side slip out through your Global Test remark.
That's a GREAT post, that cartoon ROCKS THE (MSM) HOUSE!
Never mind; saw the link.
Which in itself was a lie.
To paraphrase Churchill:
John Kerry is a lie inside a falsehood wrapped in a fabrication.
Seems to me that taking the hits over the past few years has helped inoculate Bush and diluted the Dems power to claim the Republicans are "mean". Yeah, I wanted them to respond more forcefully at times, but in retrospect it's aided them.
Gotcha, and btw, nice observation...I missed that.
Will he financially rape his lovely wife terraza? She's nearly one of the wealthiest women in the United States. they couldn't afford his clothes, accessories, hair cut, manicure, homeS or cars he drives and he wouldn't be caught dead in what their economic bracket could afford.
Do people really think a man of such extreme privilege can relate to them?
New ad for the Bush campaign!
The Dems can rerun Bush's expressions, and Bush is going to have a field day with his wrods. LOL
> So he was against the Global Test before
> he was for it? Is that Kerry's argument?
Well, that's one of them. He also argues that he was for the Global Test before he was against it.
Kerry knows that he will be shown to be a liar over numerous statements he made within the debate. This is about preemptively creating an atmosphere of moral equivalence.
hopefully someone will do a grab of it...it captures kerry perfectly.
I'm thinking at least a few of the players on madtv are pro-bush - the 'dollar bill' guy endorsed him in a skit.
Innoculation to these criticisms is exactly the point I tried to make on the live thread: both men came across as they truly are, warts and all. Trouble is, Bush's warts are known and accepted (even endearing), while Kerry's warts involve lies and dumb mistakes (like Russia's Treblinka square, or the Pottery Barn, etc.).
Further, both men did succeed in conveying their message. Trouble is, a majority of Americans agree with Bush and disagree with Kerry (when they can get any kind of bead on what Lurch is actually saying).
I hope you are right. In fact I hope the arrogance shown by Kerry in this ad backfires.
But I still can't blame Dems for gloating over the debate. Bush really blew it.
I was for using the word lied before I was against it but now I am for it again.
Right, and it's bad form to go about claiming to have 'won' a debate. People are not going to respond favorably to this action. Kerry cannot help being Kerry. It does him in.
I'm also certain that when the Kerry camp heard they "won" the debate, they thought it meant he won votes. Uh-uh. The country rarely judges a "win" in debates on where their vote will go or on agreement with the issues. It's all about presentation. These folks do not understand how this works.
My guess it that they are beginning to get a crash course in how someone can "win" presentation points, and lose on what matters. Substance.
