NEWSWEEK POLL: BUSH LEAD GONE
Sat Oct 02 2004 16:42:32 ET
New York-Sixty-one percent of Americans who watched the first presidential debate on September 30 say Sen. John Kerry won; 19 percent say President George W. Bush won and 16 percent say they tied, according to the latest Newsweek Poll which was conducted after the debate ended. Fifty-six percent say Kerry did better than they expected; 11 percent say so for Bush. Thirty-eight percent say Bush did worse than expected; 3 percent say so for Kerry, the poll shows.
The debate erased the lead the Bush/Cheney ticket has held over Kerry/Edwards in the Newsweek Poll since the Republican convention. In a three-way trial heat including Ralph Nader/Peter Camejo, among registered voters Kerry/Edwards leads Bush/Cheney 47 percent v. 45 percent with 2 percent for Nader/Camejo. In a two-way heat, Kerry/Edwards leads 49 percent v. 46 percent for Bush/Cheney, the poll shows.
A 62-percent majority of viewers says Kerry seemed more confident and self-assured (26% say so for Bush) and 51 percent say Kerry had better command of issues and facts (37% for Bush). Forty-seven percent say Kerry seemed more personally likeable (41 % for Bush) and 49 percent say Kerry came closer to reflecting their own views on most foreign policy issues (43% for Bush). The two were nearly even on several other points, including who came across as a strong leader (47% Kerry, 44% Bush) and who had a better plan for dealing with the situation in Iraq (45% for both). Forty percent of viewers thought Kerry was too wordy and 57 percent thought Bush was too repetitive.
Fifty-seven percent of all poll respondents say they are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time. Bush's job approval rating dropped two points from the Sept. 9-10 Newsweek Poll to 46 percent-a 6-point drop since the poll taken during and after the Republican convention. Forty-eight percent of registered voters polled say they would not like to see Bush re-elected but almost as many (46%) say they would.
Excerpt, the rest of the article is here: NEWSWEEK POLL: BUSH LEAD GONE
Newsweek, the home of Eleanor Clift, says Kerry-Edwards is ahead? Wow! I trust Newsweek almost as much as I trust CBS News. Kerry is toast and Newsweek knows it, but they still want to sell magazines and conflict is what sells them.

Check out this. So how do you explain this? Newsweek says lead gone, Gallup/CNN say debates didn't budget people? Which is correct?
So rather then hyperventalating, maybe we should hold off on the "OH THIS IS BAD NEWS" panic attacks
yes kerry lied, he's slick, better on TV right now don't yawn and say sp what..better double efforts--MO matters..we can wake up 11/3 to a disaster..i still think Bush will have some GRAND october surprise--lybia spilling the goods on WMD--but this scares me
There's one polling company with a proven track record and that company is Gallup. 1948-2000 and now 2004. Newsweek? Come on.
Still, maybe this will knock some of the more complacent people who support the President back into action to keep the commie lovin' Purple Heart Hunting traitor out of the WH.
LOL.. Maggots in nature. That's a damn good one. Newsweak polls are also like maggots in nature.
The new Newsweek Poll,,,shows Kerry up 47-45. Any way you look at it, it IS a big change (showing loss of support for the President) over the last few Newsweek Polls.
Bush did TERRIBLE during the debate.
GEESH President get some FACTS going here. You COULD have wiped Kerry OUT. But you didn't.
Anyhoo
Bush will still win.
THIS IS GREAT NEWS...maybe people will get out and VOTE instead of saying it is in the bag.
Kerry Wins Debate, Kerry Wins Media Hearts, Kerry Gets Big Boost from Leftist Ratherites, Bush Wins Election.
So far, the ABC news poll is my favorite, just for the sheer irony of it. It mirrors what will really happen in election:
ABC News Poll:
Among a random sample of 531 registered voters who watched the debate, 45 percent called Kerry the winner, 36 percent said it was President Bush and 17 percent called it a tie. It was a clean win for Kerry: Independents by a 20-point margin said he prevailed.
Vote Preference Among Debate Viewers
Before the debate After the debate
Bush 50% 51
Kerry 46 47
Nader 1 <0.5
Bush lost debate but GAINS 1%, lol.

"This is bad news."
Well, read this thread, take two aspirin, and you'll feel better.

Consider the source.
Oh, get a grip.
actually yes I did expect Bush to sail into election day with a 5 point or better lead. Incumbents who re-election do. This is the first incumbent in quite a long long time where the outcome is not certain one way or the other. This is more like a open election like 2000, 1968 or 1960.
38% of those polled know "a lot" about what Kerry stands for.
They were simply reacting to the style of the debate. Wait till they find out what he wants to do to our country.
Besides, they polled registered voters, not LV.

W blew the debate, plain and simple. He had a chance to weaken Kerry sighificantly and he took a pass. The successes in Iraq and Afghanistan were barely mentioned. Kerry's 20 year anti-military and anti-intelligence record in the senate were glossed over. Kerry's anti-American activities after he returned from Vietnam were never brought up. When it was over I couldn't believe what hadn't happened. Kerry and Lehrer put W on the defensive and he stayed there all night. Unbelievable.
doesn't matter unfortunately. Their are too many forces (the media, voter fraud, liberal 527's) working against us. Bush let us down.
