Staffers at the Kerry campaign may want to put the cork back in their champagne bottles after they examine the internal numbers in the latest Gallup poll.
Sure, most felt that the Massachusetts Democrat was the better debater by a whopping margin of 53 to 37 percent.
Kerry did even better when Gallup asked which candidate expressed himself clearly, beating Bush 60 to 32 percent.
But when asked which of the two was more believable, it was Bush over Kerry - 50 to 45 percent.
On which candidate did better on the issues, again it was Bush over Kerry, 49 to 46 percent.
Those surveyed by Gallup also apparently didn't buy the media's line that the president came off as irritated and petulant. Asked who was more likable, it was Bush over Kerry again, 48 to 41 percent.
But the worst news for team Kerry came when Gallup asked which candidate was tough enough to be president, a question that taps into concerns that Kerry may be weak on terror.
Gallup respondents gave the "tough enough" award to Bush - and by a landslide, 54 to 37 percent.
And Jim Lehrer is tops when it comes to keeping a Repubican President on the defensive for 90 minutes.
I think that Kerry was Senatorial rather than Presidential. He was excellent at talking to a non-responsive audience, something Senators do with regularity.
Have faith in W; debates 2 & 3 are going to open a lot of eyes.
Gallup Poll: Kerry Better Debater; Bush Better President
...Great! Give sKerry his lettermans sweater and tell him to take a hike.
...they will stay home."
In Wisconsin the dems are counting on that. They have people who will go to the polls and say they are someone that they know won't be voting. By canvassing numerous neighborhoods knocking on doors, they take information and notes about that person and quickly discern whether they would likely get out and vote. If it is determined that they aren't planning to vote, then someone could vote in their place. Likely nobody at the polls would know who is voting because WI doesn't require you to produce an ID. It sucks.
Sure they're happy. Now 15% of his voters like him instead of just 5%......
I kind of have a feeling that the President is going to do much better in the next two debates. I sensed some frustration from the President, probably due to the BS questions being lobbed up to Kerry and the fact that the good Sen. was making no sense in his foreign policy remarks and getting a pass on it.
Here's to hoping that the other polls will show 'Kerry Wins Debate; No-0ne Cares'.
"I think that the public in general just disregards the bias of the MSM. The public is much smarter then the MSM give them credit for being. The dumb ones are the nit wits in the MSM."
Interesting you say that- just this morning I read an article showing that while the MSM THINKS their audience is better educated- it turns out the better educated one is, the less one depends on MSM for ones news.
Yes, I will attempt to track down where I read it...seems like it was Townhall...
yes they have reason to celebrate because at 41% likability--he has broken into the 40's. Good job sKerry!
I hope President Bush says something like "if we can only debate terrorists to death" at the next debate when Kerry gets into his pompous lines.
Excellent!!!!!!!
Minus the "de"...
is this the same Gallup Poll that was posted the very night of the debate--right after the debate?
Kerry is the Master Baiter...
those that fall for his bait are the de-baiters...
Thanks for posting this. Now all the "chicken littles" from the live debate thread can breathe easier.
I think it came out yesterday.
Having a better day after reading that
I got stunned Friday when I polled my high school students regarding the debate. They said that Kerry was a better debater, but that they thought that Bush is a better/stronger/clearer leader - by a 9 to 1 margin. I've been teaching for 11 years and teens tend to be liberal - but they are also quite honest and good at spotting phonies. Again - I was stunned!
