Dear DQ Mail Recipient,
We were made aware of this unselfish effort on the part of an ordinary American to draw attention to the special needs of our brave and great members of the Armed Forces that have returned home with difficult wounds and injuries.
We ask you to take a moment if you would to learn more about this effort and the great group of people that have involved themselves and consider supporting them in any way you can. The website is www.SoldierRide.com . They can receive donations or other forms of support there.
We at DQ Media are sending you and email because we believe this is a worthy and meaningful effort by a sole individual and a group of giving people that deserves our support. We (DQ) are in no way affiliated with www.SoldierRide.com or their organization.
Thank you in advance for taking a few moments to consider helping, if you can.
Sincerely,
DQ Media
(Montauk, NY September, 2004) Chris Carney, a rugby player and bartender from the East End of Long Island, is closing in on the finish of his 4,200 mile cross-country bike ride, Soldier Ride www.soldierride.com, began on August 17th in Montauk, NY and finishes in San Diego, CA on October 6th. On October 7th there will be a welcome reception at Spanish Landing Park (Cancer Survivor Park) in San Diego from 4 7 p.m. for supporters, fans and those interested in the cause. On October 8th he will be accompanying keynote speaker Tony Snow at the NAB Radio conference in San Diego.
Soldier Ride began in East Hampton, NY as an effort to help American soldiers who have been severely injured in the line of fire. After dipping his back tire in the Atlantic Ocean at Montauk Point, Carney biked to Manhattan on the first day of his journey led by a police escort. He made one stop in Woodbury, NY, to receive a Medal of Honor Commemorative coin and signed copy of the Medal of Honor Foundation book, which details all the recipients of the medals in American history. Throughout his journey thus far Chris has been doing various press interviews with newspapers in the towns he has been passing through, doing radio call ins with various stations across the country and appearing on TV such as Fox News Networks Fox & Friends, CNN and network affiliates across country. Chris made a stop in Dayton, OH at a veterans hospital where veterans in uniform lined the street to welcome him. Another highlight of his trip was a visit to his hometown of Centerville, Iowa, which included a day trip to Des Moines with various press interviews. Upon his arrival in Denver, CO, Chris was met by Wounded Warrior Project Founder John Melia, recent double amputee SSGT Heath Calhoun, recent amputee SSGT Ryan Kelly and world-class hand cyclist Steve Ackerman who rode with him for two days to Colorado Springs and Canon City. Chris will be stopping in Phoenix, AZ on October 1st with a visit to the local VA hospital and then making his way to San Diego, CA October 6th.
A major supporter of this ride has been Tony Snow of Fox News Radio. He has been checking in with Chris periodically on the air, has created a link on his home page for the Ride with updates (www.foxnews.com/tonysnow), came to New York to meet Chris on Fox & Friends Morning Show before he left Manhattan and will be in San Diego when Chris finishes the ride.
Since Chris departure the emails and phone calls have been pouring in. Supporters with words of encouragement, fans who want to ride with Chris for certain portions, people who just want to help and believe in what Chris is doing and the most important, the donations are coming in fast. As of Tuesday, September 14th donations have topped $340,000. The goal of $1 million is in site. For daily updates on Chris journey visit www.soldierride.com or www.foxnews.com/tonysnow. To make donations visit www.soldierride.com or call (631) 267-3142.
