Dutch home of Bigley's brother "raided" Sat 2 October, 2004 00:31

LONDON (Reuters) - Dutch armed intelligence officers have raided the Amsterdam home of Paul Bigley, brother of Liverpool engineer Kenneth Bigley who is being held hostage in Iraq, the Independent has reported.

It said they seized Bigley's computer and interrogated him about links with the group holding his brother captive.

He signed a five-page statement and the officers sent information from his computer hard disc to London for analysis, said Saturday's Independent, which quoted neighbours of Bigley.

Neither the Foreign Office nor Paul Bigley were immediately available for comment.

Paul Bigley has been a vocal critic of Tony Blair's government efforts to secure his brother's release.

The Independent said Bigley denied having any direct contact with the kidnappers, from the Tawhid and Jihad group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a key ally of al Qaeda.

He said his only contacts with the group were through Arabic television channel Al Jazeera, which had passed messages to the group in Iraq, the paper reported.

It quoted one of Bigley's neighbours as saying he felt intimidated by the raid. "He feels as though he is being treated like a criminal," the neighbour said.

Kenneth Bigley was seized 16 days ago with two Americans, both of whom have since been beheaded by their captors.

The 62-year-old engineer has made two videotaped appeals, both broadcast on Al Jazeera, in which he begged Blair to meet his kidnappers demands and work to free him.

Paul Bigley has accused Blair of lying over the Iraq war and of not doing enough to end the crisis.

There's a Tomahawk cruise missile somewhere with Al Jazeera HQ's name on it.

He hasn't been killed yet. Is this evidence of a connection between the Bigley family and the terrorist group to undermine Blair's government?

Wasn't there a bogus U.S. "hostage" who turned up at his uncle's place in Lebanon?

If he's a bogus hostage, he as much as murdered the other two. Very very bad.

The raid came amid claims that the British hostage was free to roam his kidnappers' home in Iraq and was "caged" only for terrorist videos.
-
In Fallujah, Mohammed Kasim, an Iraqi-born gunman with a British passport, said the latest video of Mr Bigley showing him shackled in a cage had been staged to "terrify" the British public.
-
Kasim claimed he heard news of Mr Bigley "every day". He said the cage and chains were set up only for the video recording.
-
"They made this video for two reasons. They wanted to scare Tony Blair. They also wanted revenge for Saddam Hussein for the way in which he was displayed by the US military after his capture."

Al Jazeera and the BBC have mutual interest to show the war in a bad light. Could this mean that they are in collusion along with Mr. Bigley? Wonder what Mr. Bigley's war stance is since he is so vocal on making out Mr. Blair to be a liar. Kind of reminds me of CBS and Kerry.

Oct. 1, 2004 — LONDON (Reuters) - The brother of a British hostage in Iraq said Saturday intelligence officers had raided his Dutch home, copied data from his computer and forced him to make a five-page statement about his activities.

Paul Bigley, brother of hostage Kenneth Bigley, said the raid happened two days ago but a spokeswoman for the British Foreign Office said neither British nor Dutch officials had carried out such a raid.

"There was no raid," she said. "No British officials of any kind have raided Paul Bigley's home."

Bigley said the raid had made him feel like a criminal and had wasted time in the race to save his brother's life.

"I've lost 48 hours of my quest to get Ken free because of all this nonsense," Paul Bigley told Sky Television News by telephone from the Netherlands. "It was incredible."

"I understand that people have to check things out ... but there are ways of doing these things."

Bigley said Dutch and British officers raided his home in the Netherlands, where he runs his own business.

"(They copied) my whole computer, which of course they are welcome to copy," he said, adding that there was nothing suspicious on it.

Asked about a newspaper report which said the officers forced him to make a five-page statement detailing his recent activities, he said: "That's true."

"It's a very poor show ... I felt diabolical," he said.

Bigley denied having any direct contact with his brother's kidnappers, from the Tawhid and Jihad group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a key ally of al Qaeda.

He said his only contacts with the group were through Arabic television channel Al Jazeera.

Kenneth Bigley was seized 16 days ago with two Americans, both of whom have since been beheaded by their captors.

Maybe its a scam. Fake a kidnapping to get a million dollar pay day and split the money. Far fetched?

Accusing Prime Minister Blair of lying about the Iraqi war is not a good thing to do if you want him to put up the funds!
