Consider where she's been for weeks and weeks. They also mentioned that they had "almost all" of her bones, so no doubt they had been scattered by scavengers, broken by whatever had been thrown on top of her, and so on. Very grim, and very sad.

Compacted probably added together with decomposition would have just left a pile of crushed bones.
