Let's see if Junior can make a horse race out of this deal. While I respect Junior, I am pushing for Kasey Kahne...I love how this kid races...clean and fair.
Go, Kasey!

NASCAR's ``Drive for Diversity'' program, which began earlier this year, has helped get rides for several minority drivers and work for minority crew members in lower divisions. Johnson said he is also working on a plan to get more minority businesses involved in the sport. NASCAR is all about the money. Whoever has the money + talent to get the job done gets in.
Honestly, we would have to admit that we have an embarrassing contingent of knuckle dragging race haters amongst us. But, the vast majority are fair minded folks who would welcome a black team to get into the mix. Imagine Jessee as crew chief.
BUT
No affirmative action; no quotas;
If NASCAR's program include this, it will alienate the fair minded and turn into a disaster.
I have a vague memory of a black driver, way, way back. Heard stories from folks who saw him run at Bristol. Had no pit crew. Changed his own tars and filled his own tank. Can that be right.
Will miss the race - heading out for a shape note singing out beyond Dollywood. But, the NASCAR threads are some of the most fun to be had on this wonderful site.

My worst memory of Cabo was watching the water taxi bring these young girls back and one of them was showing a bottle of worms to a friend on deck and the next second she got violently seasick and dropped her bottle over the side...

Did Norms cruise ship get lost inside the Catalina Triangle... After a certain point, it is possible to confuse Corona with Cuervo... after all, they're both 'C' words... and as much as the San Diego jail sucks, mexican jails are worse. Hmmmm. Let's hope Norm checks in soon.

I Was Just Wonderin...
About The Angels Among Us
By Carol Einarsson
October 2, 2004
Now we're hearing more good things about John Andretti. Clearly he can drive a race car. And drive it fast, even. So I wonder why he continues to languish.
So there's a rumor that Travis Kvapil will take over for Brendan Gaughan, but he put a car in the wall, testing at Kansas. I wonder if Mr. Penske put his hand to his head and wondered about this decision.
Y'know, I like to be of a grateful mindset, but does anyone else wonder why, if Microsoft is going to donate to the VJ Gang Camp, they can't just give 'em a couple million bucks instead of something under $125,000?
I wonder if Hendrick Motorsports' loss of the Softball Championship to DEI makes them all the more hungry to beat them at Talladega.
And another thing -- whose idea is it to put Chad Blount in his first race at a place like Talladega, and when there are ten guys trying to win a championship?!
Hermie in a Yates car? Cool! I wonder how he'd feel if he knew that someone I know has a green tree frog named after him. Hermie, that is. Not Yates.
If someone really DID give Robby's number to Tony, and Tony really DID go over Robby's house and kick his butt, I wonder if NASCAR would still punish him. Sure, there's that whole assault and battery thing with the local police, but would NASCAR still call it detrimental to the sport of auto racing even if it wasn't at the track?
I wonder if Talladega is really the best place for Yates engine builders (involving eight Fords) to try a new cylinder head.
And I wonder how much seven other guys will sweat when the first one has trouble. If you ask me, which I realize you never did, "Something new" and "Talladega" should never be in the same sentence.
Wouldn't it be something if Mark Martin won the Championship and then DID retire? Sure, he's saying he doesn't plan to retire, despite speculation, but could anyone go out MORE on top of his game than that? The phrase "My work here is done." comes to mind.
I wonder how many folks realize that Morgan Shepherd hauls his race car around the country, towing it with a pickup, in a box trailer like you see at your local dirt track. How could anyone not root for this guy?
What's up with loyal sponsors lately? First we hear that NetZero isn't interested in sponsoring a car unless Ward is driving it, and now we hear that Cingular saved Robby's job for him. Refreshingly odd, isn't it?
I wonder why Rick Hendrick only complains about the archaic system of timing pit road speed when one of his drivers is caught. Is that kind of like complaining about the laws governing car dealerships only after you're convicted of felonious business practices?
Okay, now that I know the fuel cell spacers actually increase gas mileage, I'm wondering why NASCAR let Kurt Busch keep his win. Doesn't cheating mean anything to the sanctioning body anymore? Confiscating something that's simply unapproved (but not of special benefit or advantage); confiscating something before a car even hits the track; and confiscating something that might well have won a guy a race are all penalized the same way? A thousand bucks buys you a win? Oh, but I almost forgot -- Mike Helton did say they were policing these last ten races the same as the first 26, right?
And one more thing I was just wonderin'....
Why do some media folk seem to want to make Junior into a freak show with this thing about his dad? I saw headlines that he attributed his survival to his dad. Yes, he did. But does that mean that he believes a ghost (as one headline proclaimed) pulled him from the car? Or aren't those, instead, the words of Mike Wallace (CBS news guy, not NASCAR driver)? Junior says, "You tell me." And somehow it all got attributed to him as though he said things he did not. Do I believe angels are among us? Absolutely. Created beings sent to help us. Possible? Maybe even PROBABLE that he was helped. And in fact, after hearing this story, even the tape looked different to me, the way he climbed out of the car, seemingly shoulders first, on his back, more like he had been dragged rather than belly first like a fire evacuation. Even a certain favorite Charlotte paper says, "Earnhardt Jr. said it was his father who helped him escape from the burning car in July." Did he say he helped him? Or rather, didn't he say "I think he had a lot to do with me getting out of that car." Maybe he had a lot to do with him getting out of the car the same way he's had a lot to do with Junior knowing how to drive restrictor plate races better than anyone else. Because he taught him well.

If NASCAR's program include this, it will alienate the fair minded and turn into a disaster. I vaguely remember that black guy as well. Sad.
But you see the caliber of drivers. They grew UP with this. The protesters just do not realize that you can't just 'walk' into NASCAR and become a driver.
NASCAR CEO's can't get a straight answer out of the head of that group either. NASCAR has no idea when they will be there and how many there will be. That tells me that since they do not want to work with the Officials, they could be trouble.

I'm alive,, but out of beer! (but not for long) ;-]
Our darn satellite internet widget broke 3 days ago (or so they said) so I'm just getting caught up... I missed the qualifying too.
btw, I was minding my Ps and Qs in Mexico and San Diego the whole time.. (the hoosegow is the last place ya want to be on vacation)
I frequented the Picadilly bar a bit in SD.. it was tough leaving $2 Foster's on tap behind.
Looks like I'm picking what most folks are picking this weekend.
Be back in a bit.

Welcome back, hope ya enjoyed yer vacation.
Now then, should I go with Jr, and keep my relative standing, or should I get radical and risk it all for the #5 spot??
In retrospect (that's a local tavern) I suppose I should just keep Jr on the roster, but, hey, it's my first FRL. and, though somewhat successful, maybe I'll just pull out the stops and gamble. What the hey? It's not like I'll be shunned or something, is it? (that is, if it works). ...
hello?

Wretched Magic Johnson racist puke...NASCAR fans come from ALL stripes...just sit in the stands and look around, it takes all kinds to watch a race. I've seen bikers to boxers and lawyers to lap dancers all rooting for their drivers, black, white purple or green it doesn't REALLY matter at to the fans...but to Nascar, Mike Helton the PC KING!...HE IS THE PROBLEM!!!
Next thing you know they'll ban the prayer, the Old Glory, the Anthem and flyovers...nah, couldn't happen....
Nextsmell = PC Crowd...next year they will prohibit the Confed Flag in the parking lots and campgrounds because some fans don't like it, it makes them uncomfortable...then it will be unfair for one driver to have more fans than another driver in the stands, so every driver will have so many tickets for his fans and EVERY driver will have an equal number of fans in the stands...just so one fan won't FEEL bad when his driver doesn't win...blah blah blah...
