One of the local AM talk radio personalities is calling this decision blatent racism. A white male was sentenced for 6 years for a similar crime at the same time.
I can't speak to the different sentences, only the judges would have that information. What is upsetting is someone on the radio spouting such garbage without regards to the effects such statements would have.
I'll look for a link for the other sentencing.

As a nation, we have come a long way in terms of looking at drunk drivers in a more realistic light.
When my brother was hit by a drunk driver (severing his leg) back in 1970, crashes involving drunk drivers were often seen as unfortunate "accidents".
I am heartened when I see harsh sentences for these crimes.
