One thing that struck me immediately was the lighting. Bush looked like he had a spotlight right on him, and Kerry looked like he was in a shadow. It wasn't just the facial appearances, Kerry's lectern looked distinctly darker. Could it be that they realized that, if the lighting were equal, Kerry's fake tan would be far more obvious?

I had expected Kerry to choke, but he at least looked acceptable enough. Of course, were one to evaluate his logic and consistency, he clearly lost the debate.

But Bush could have offered more proof of a Terrorist-Iraq connection, specifically listed every nation in our coalition (he should carry that list with him), pointed out that both Germany and France have already indicated they would not send troops even if Kerry were elected, and pointed out that we have not had one major terrorist attack since 9/11.

Bush could also mention that we are indeed fighting the terrorists that attacked us in Iraq. This is a world war, and one should not become overly concerned about the geography of each particular battle. Bush could take Kerry's claim that Iraq has become a "magnet for terrorists" to say, "You see, there is a connection and we are indeed fighting the right enemy."

I've had some experience moderating political debates (in a place where politics is considered a shooting sport!), and I would have been embarassed to have written the questions that Lehrer asked.

He is nothing more than a Socialist shill. Like Kerry he would sell us all down the river for a complete takeover of the US by his fellow travelers.

Turns out that our Prez isn't as dumb as the Libs like to characterize.

That's because he pauses to consider his reply. And then his thoughts rush ahead of his words. It gives the appearance of someone who is tongue-tied. To be honest, he's no Ronald Reagan behind the podium. He doesn't listen to his opponent the way Reagan did. But W has been an able CINC. And Kerry is Unfit for Command. What Bush should have said - months ago - is exactly that. And his failure to be bluntly honest, is hurting his campaign.

KERRY "FLIP FLOPS" IN DEBATE
Well I have come to realize in all of this confussion on who is "better" to lead this free world!!!
I have come to the realization that there is no one one better to lead us into victory other than our President Bush!!!
This hit me while I watched the Bush/Kerry debate...(3times get you )
Theses are the facts:
1. Bush did out debate Kerry (And gave the facts to back his words up).
2. And most important... Bush can clearly out drink Kerry...
In the debate Bush had taken 17 drinks of his water (ya right ) and if you noticed Bush only used his right hand... finishing off three glasses (the glass that Bush drank out of was a plain flat round water glass Kerry drank out of a wine glass).
While Kerry only took two drinks (Hehehehehe Well we all know about Kerry), one at the first of the debate... He picked up his wine glass with his left hand and quenched his thirst... Well later on in the debate Kerry took another drink ( I bet you can't guess what hand he used). This time picking up his wine/water glass with his right hand (Hehehe). Hummm... Haven't we heard this sound before... Flip Flop.
Kerry can't even decide which hand he want's to drink from...
Well I'm sold...President Bush can out debate, "Out drink" Kerry, and it only takes him one hand to get it done! I think that, that says it all.
God bless Texas and God bless America!

I do hope that should the country be blessed with a second Bush term, the first thing Congress does is DEFUND THE D*MN PBS!!! Why should we taxpayers be paying Lehrer's salary for stabbing us in the back?

Not only did Kerry not hit any out of the park, it was plain for anyone to see that Lehrer was bias in his questions.

I kept watching the lights. And it seemed to me that FnKerry was allowed FAR more time to talk then President Bush. Was it just me? (I can't stand listening to him anyway!)

Your analysis buttresses my earlier contention that Bush should NOT have engaged in any debates, as there was no upside for him. He's ahead in the polls and substantively on the facts, so why give Ketchup Boy an opportunity to shore things up -- which is precisely what happened last evening. Yes, Bush was clearly rattled. However, a nice October Surprise by Bush should fix everything.

Bush and his staff agreed to the moderators and the format. I thought it foolish to agree to having the debates hosted by the usual MSM liberals. It legitimizes the MSM's position that they are impartial reporters and journalists, in contrast with the partisan character of conservative talk radio hosts. Considering the recent episode of the forged documents offered by CBS to defame Bush's Air National Guard service, the Republicans are foolish in this regard. They should have said something like: if Jim Lehrer moderates one debate, then Rush Limbaugh will moderate another.

The old time baseball team manager who said "nice guys finish last" spoke the truth.

Bush and his staff agreed to the moderators and the format.

But some have suggested that Lehrer gave the questions to both parties, beforehand - contrary to what Lehrer claimed at the opening of the 'debate'.

It's interesting, too, that the initial reaction from the 'blogs', and elsewhere, in the minutes following the 'debate', was either that Bush won or that it was a tie. A lot of people seem to be buying the LM 'spin' since then. Sure, the spin is ubiquitous. But what does one expect from the LM? They still are ubiquitous, and I think increasingly irrelevant.
