G'night FRiends...and I mean it, g'night! lol
G'Night!
:-)
The Q's show a tilt, no question. But The President IS the President and he has actions to explain to the American people. Kerry has accusations and proposals. It's the nature of their situation that The Pres. is going to get the tougher questions. Kerry's answers were full pf platitudes, falsehoods and some downright lies. It was up to the President to say "There you go again!!" For the most part he did not. That's not the moderator's fault.
Outstanding post. Thanks.
PING....................
When you have an incumbent, its called defending your record. Bush could have and who knows may have won with these questions. I really dont see what your complaining about? Did you really expect Lehrer to ask Kerry about Vietnam or the Nuclear Freeze Movement. Both are ancient history. Bush could have covered either in his response to any number of questions. Dont blame the Moderator for the fact that no one fed the President answers for his questions.
If these questions were biased, then list how you would change them. What would you have had Lehrer ask? I still say when you have a challenger taking on an incumbent President in a time of war, its not surprising that the questions would focus on Iraq and the Presidents prosecution of the war.
Where do we go to file a complaint against Lehrer. He was blatantly biased. He's unfit to be a moderator.
good summary fairopinion. i am honestly fed up with the republicans' apparent lack of spine...if they allow the next debates to be moderated as planned, they are nuts. they will be set up again to make kerry shine and not hold him accountable for HIS POSITIONS AND EFFORTS as opposed to always allowing the President's to be scrutinized.
It's not about the questions, it's about the answers. Kerry did not answer the questions, he made charges.
I'm wondering if Kerry and his camp had previous knowledge of what the questions would be.....
I had the same impression... the focus of the evening seemed to be a critique on Bush's performance as Commander in Chief, at least that was the tenor of the questions. I never got straight what Kerry would have done different other than that he would have done better. Also, I don't think he very really out lined a pan for Iraq that differed from Bush other than to promise that he would bring in more allies (France and Germany?).
Mr Bush - What did you do wrong?
Mr Kerry - What did Bush do wrong?
When I was watching the debate I didn't perceive a bias in the questions. But reading them over now, I think you nailed it.
What did Bush say? I worked way too late last night...
Watching CSPAN this morning I think Brian deliberately replayed ONLY THE QUESTIONS POSED BY LEHRER(without candidate responses)to prove your point. He didn't really explain before or after why he did that.
I also noticed how the MSM's half-truths and obfuscations in reporting on Iraq, as well as the lack of any good news about our troops, dovetailed right into Kerry's talking points.
