Thread 1 - Pre-Debate discussion
Very painful to watch.
I know I am going against the crowd here, but I have to say that Bush lost that debate. Not even close. He was defensive, stammering, paused way to many times, and seemed like he was defending himself.
His attacks on Kerry came across as very weak, like talking points.
Kerry was convincing, smooth, and polished. If I had no horse in this race, I'd be on Kerry's side after watching that disaster.
Problem for Kerry is that he lied out his rear end ..
Don't you just love Kerry taking GW's signature statement...God bless America. Brit analyzing it well. Kerry came off as a slick lawyer...I defended this country...the old Vietnam drum again. That SwiftBoat ad coming out tomorrow had better nail Kerry. The very idea of Kerry as president is scary. We have to earn the world's respect, pass the global test. He's out of his mind.
We're Doomed!!! Doomed I tell ya!
If that's the general perception, then Kerry loses.
Never heard of you... I guess you have know idea what your talking about...
I think the graphs are interesting, but as Rush says, why in the world are we interested in uncommitted voters? Is getting the uncommitted vote the only purpose of the debates?
Personally, considering the vast difference between a rightous, America first man like George Bush and a lying, commie-loving, traitor such as Kerry, how can anyone be uncommitted? The choices are so extreme, either you swing one way or the other. I don't see how a Bush voter is going to flip for Kerry or vice versa. 3rd party voters are going to divide along similar lines.
I can understand not wanting to vote (tho I think you'd be wrong not to vote), but I cannnot understand being uncommitted in this race.
GLOBAL TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a new point global test.
ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND THE MAD TV DEBATE SPOOF????
(THE VIDEO LINK)
In my rather mis-guided youth it was referred to as being..."Stoned to tha bone!"
I think this might be the explanation for her physical and verbal antics.
Teresa has enough money to hire a personal trainer and stylist. Maybe she doesn't care how she looks.
For the people out there who don't eat and breath this stuff like we do -- they are going to think Kerry came across as informed and intelligent.
Bush better have somebodies ass tonight, he came across as completely unprepared. He never hammered home just WTF this big master plan is? Where is this money coming from? It was like Bush kept walking into Kerry's punches. Man, I was not expecting this.
Kerry needed a homerun tonight and got a single-he simply says he can do it better-which will not wash
I would have liked Bush to go a little more on the offense on a few points. Make clear that anyone can have a 'plan' that looks good on paper, but that a plan that looks good on paper may not turn out so well if it relies upon others to act a certain way.
Also, I would have liked to see Bush point out that Al Quaeda has made Iraq the center of the War on Terror; it's better for us to be fighting Al Quaeda over in Iraq than to be fighting them here in the U.S.
I got news for ya.. the American people, as a rule, only CARE about style points. They don't understand substance. We're in the land that worships folks like P-Diddy and Paris Hilton. We lost horribly tonight.
I've never seen some much Monday-morning quaterbacking...Fox lead with "no notable gaffes" for either man.
It was a solid debate, if you undersold Kerry as a debater, then you erred.
He spent 20 years in the Senate, what do you think they do all day over there?
Bush did fine, I'd call it a strong single, almost a double.
Bush didn't need to win tonight to win the election.
I predict that his best debate will be the town hall format.
Even if Kerry won the debate I don't think he did enough to convince the people he needed. He spoke to his constituents.
In NFL terms, for a team to make the playoffs it needs not only to win the final game of the season but it needs to win by a certain amount of points, too via the tie-breaker rules. Kerry didn't do that.
Kristinn on CSPAN right now!
