LANGFANG, China Casting aside long-standing reticence about taking part in U.N. peacekeeping duties abroad, China said yesterday it was deploying a large squad of anti-riot police to Haiti and bracing for postings in other world trouble spots. Officials put on display a new $18 million training center for peacekeepers and said it underscored China's positive attitude toward taking part in global peacekeeping missions.
"It is inevitable that China is going to play a bigger role in peacekeeping efforts," Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Liu Jianchao said.
As one of five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, China helps to decide where U.N. peacekeepers are sent. But its government has hesitated to deploy its own forces, wary of getting caught in civil strife in distant nations.
An advance team of 30 Chinese riot police left for Haiti on Sept. 17, and another 95 will join them early in October, police Col. Qu Zhiwen said.
While small numbers of Chinese police have taken part in five other peacekeeping missions since 1999 in Afghanistan, East Timor, Bosnia, Liberia and Kosovo the force going to Haiti is the largest deployment and the first unit to travel abroad.
The deployment comes as food shortages roil the coastal city of Gonaives in Haiti, where heavy flooding last week from Tropical Storm Jeanne left more than 1,500 people dead.
The 125-member force has received three months of training in riot control, peacekeeping methods, driving, and Haitian history and geography.
China already has sent armored personnel carriers, all-terrain vehicles, huge generators, trucks, water-purification equipment and other gear, including a 14-day supply of food that includes 30 tons of rice, to equip its forces.

And all this just off the Florida coast?
Can anyone say "Monroe Docrtine"?
Not to mention China's involvement/investment in the Panama Canal.
What, we should sent people to Haiti?
Let China try a few "peacekeeping" missions... and they'll lose their taste for voting for them real quick.
1) THE PUPPET MASTERS win again! Their reach is truly incredible.
2) Anyone who thinks that China will not be
A) setting up preliminary contacts and other mechanisms, sites, factors toward eventual moves against the USA Mainland
and
B) collecting all the intel they can from that perspective
just doesn't know China.

They have millions of expendable slaves.
They are in this to win.
Their goal is world domination.
We ignore them at our peril.
Make no mistake about it.
And the worlds largest container port and probably one of the longest runways...right there in the Bahamas...
All run by Li Ka-shing China's Red Billionaire...Gate Keeper of the Panama Canal
Hutchinson Whampoa the Red Army front group
Friends of Bill and Jimmy
imo
As we used our military to keep open shipping lanes for oil.
Now China sees fit to protect its shipping lanes for its goods and services.
Make no mistake about it.
Makes,....sense,........The 'DNC' will want the Chinese/Islamic U.N. to oversee our 'election' vote.
/a new kind of war?
(remember the movie, 'Trouble in/on Mind')
Unfortunately it goes much deeper than mere protection of goods and services.... but you knew that...eh
imo

"Not to mention China's involvement/investment in the Panama Canal."
They can't wait for Canada to have some problems so they can post a "police force" there too.
They're already building a huge port facility in the Bahamas and have taken over the Panama canal. Do you think they're up to something?
But, but, they're our FRIENDS. We have a business relationship with them.
I can see them entrenching themselves in Cuba, and then offering to trade China giving up Cuba for USA giving up Taiwan. -PJ
Hmmmmmmmmm
I too remember the 'Redstone'....Cuba/Turkey poly.
Hmmmmmmmmm
This Chinese U.N. action to be discussed in tonight's Presidental debate?
Sure...........along with a million plus illegal alien votes?
/chads-nese
Hey, isn't that what our troops in Korea were called during that "police action" there?
Semantics.
Just refer to them as a police force, and they will be able to move in divisions, all to help, of course.
