Mr. Ken Charles Director of Operations/Programming Clear Channel Communications 510 Lovett Blvd. Houston, Texas 77006
Dear Mr. Charles:
I was shocked to learn of your actions and read your comments in an Associated Press article KPRC Gives Rather's Radio Show the Boot filed September 28, 2004. Apparently, KPRC makes programming decisions based on a political agenda, rather than on ratings or broadcasting standards.
The CBS television news organization and Dan Rather made a huge mistake by airing a story based on faulty documents from an unreliable source. The CBS story was wrong, it was presented wrongly, and the network took too long to set the record straight. However, CBS has spent a considerable amount of airtime correcting that mistake and apologizing for their error, which apparently resulted from the sloppy work and the competitive nature of the news business, rather than by a political agenda.
Removing one radio show for one acknowledge mistake by its host while continuing to run shows of commentators who often make inaccurate and unverified statements reveals a double standard. I believe KPRC should hold Mr. Rather and all others to the same standards. The failure to do so strongly suggests KPRC has no broadcasting standards of accuracy and only a political agenda. Here is a sampling of just a few inaccurate, uncorrected statements from other KPRC commentators to illustrate my point.
From Michael Savages Savage Nation:
1. Sen. John Kerry has given some intelligence to Osama bin Laden. 9/17/04. 2. The Democratic Party is ethnic minorities and women and immigrants. 7/28/04
From Rush Limbaughs The Rush Limbaugh Show
1. [W]e spend over two times on education already, what we spend on defense. 6/30/04 2. There aren't families living on the minimum wage 4/29/04
I strongly support the free speech rights of Mr. Savage, Mr. Limbaugh, and your station as a whole, but the above statements are completely inaccurate. Sen. Kerry has never given intelligence to Bin Laden. As a white, native Texan male, I can testify that the Democratic Party is diverse and open to all Americans, and is not based on race or gender. Furthermore, the federal government spends fully 14 times less on education than we do on defense, and millions of American families do, in fact, live off the minimum wage. How does KPRC justify Mr. Rathers punishment, while ignoring repeated inaccuracies by other hosts?
Please make a commitment to your listeners that KPRC has standards of accuracy and they are enforced for all broadcasters. If KPRC can make such a commitment, then there is no justification for removing Mr. Rathers radio show. However, if KPRC makes no such commitment, then at least listeners should be forewarned.
Sincerely,
Gene Green Member of Congress GG:dw
A dem comes to bat for another dem.
I don't remember Rush saying it was the Federal gov't whose spending was equal to defense spending.
The school district in which my daughter teaches receives 1.9% of their funding from the Federal gov't and 98.1% of their funding from state and local sources. Total education spending from all sources easily surpasses defense spending, IMO.
Its about the money--the green, Mr. Green. If the news becomes show biz, and the viewers catch on, and the viewers switch the channel, Rather gets the boot. Its the American way.
Apparently, Congressman Green, you did even less fact-checking than Dan Rather did on the purported TANG memos.
What an idiot. it was because Danny Boy committed a fraud against the listeners. DUH
Texas RatherGate Ping!
What else would you expect from the likes of Gene Green?
Pat Gray and Ken Charles had Congressman Green on the show this morning to discuss this letter, and Pat made a very insightful comment regarding Green's motives: He was on the Congressional Telecom Committee, and wants to be on the committee again. This is Green's attempt to set up his agenda IN that committee, and it appears that this agenda comes down to limiting Talk Radio's voice!
Watch this guy, folks! He want's one of our two main freerange outlets for free speech to be neutered - Talk Radio.
The federal government should NOT be in the business of funding education. That should be a state and local function ONLY.
What it is with the RATS and typing memos?
It appears that KPRC has much higher principles than simply relying on (Federal) 'broadcasting standards', Sen Green. While some radio talk show hosts may embellish their allegations about certain politicians with rhetoric, Dan Rather is guilty as hell of outright FRAUD by airing federal documents that he knew beforehand were of highly dubious origin from the warnings of his own experts. Mr. Green's standards are typically liberal, that is, lower than the filth that resides on the underside of green scum.
Rush and Savage don't represent themselves unbiased news journalists do they. Thier shows are not news shows are they?
I believe they are MARKETED as overtly political and controverserial radio talk show hosts.
This morning on the 950KPRC Pat Grey Show, Pat Grey and Ken Charles contacted Gene Green and made him retract what he said in that letter he sent. The reason was that he admitted that he took out of context what was said from both Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh. He had not listen to all the show and he was only going by an AP report he had. He also admitted to saying that if he would have been in favor of what KPRC did, he whouldn't have written any letter! Talk about being a biggot bipartisen!
By the way, you can listen to talk radio 950 kprc at HTTP://www.950KPRC.com. This station carries Pat Grey, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Chris Baker, Micael Savage and others... They are real good commentators!
Gene Green Member of CongressDear Gene Green:
Rush Limbaugh is intellectually HONEST and factual. He is a political analyst/commentator,
NOT a mainstream news REPORTER.Shove it !!
He is just upset that the Texas Rangers will be questioning a lot rats involved in the Rathergate Fraud.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has launched a criminal investigation into forged military records allegedly obtained from President Bush's National Guard file that were aired by CBS News two weeks ago, referring a congressional request for the probe to the investigative division of the Texas Rangers.
"On Wednesday 52 Republican congressman urged the Texas attorney general and the U.S. attorney in Lubbock to investigate who created a bogus document at the heart of the now-discredited CBS News story accusing Bush of shirking his Guard duty," the Fox News Channel's Major Garrett reported. The congressional letter read in part: "We request an immediate investigation and prosecution if warranted. Our interest is in whether any state or federal crimes were committed."
Texas Attorney General Abbott immediately forwarded the congressional request to the investigative division of the Texas Rangers, Garrett said.
BWWAHAHAHAHAH. Who wants to pay to advertise to Dan's 100,000 viewers when you can pay the same amount for 10 times the viewers.
That is great! A real Bullseye!
Green also just introduced a bill to abolish the Electoral College.
