Another French Exception
This week, the French foreign minister has taken that position a step further by conferring a legitimacy of sorts on the terrorists seeking to disrupt the transition to a democratic Iraq.
The Iraqi interim government has called for an international conference in Cairo in November to shore up its international legitimacy and clarify relations with its neighbors and the international community ahead of elections planned for January. What it got from France was more stonewalling, plus a statement that any conference should include representatives from among those who have chosen the path of armed resistance to the interim government and the occupying coalition.

This may be the quid pro quo for the release of the two French hostages. It may be meaningless, but it will be a fictive hook on which the terrorists can hang their legitimizing hat.
